I'm bummed. We are fortunate to have the true zen master of tennis (Federer) playing and TV hardly ever shows his matches. They havent even bothered to show any of what was played of the Grojean/Fed match as far as i know and they keep revisiting other matches for the millionith time...they barely even talk about it. I am used to Roddicks matches taking precedence, but this is a joke. Then you have PMac's constant roddick worship going on...no wonder why there are so many negative posts about Roddick..we're suffering from a serious case of roddick overdose. A guy like Federer comes around like once in a lifetime, or even a step further, i dont think there has been anyone like him in the history of tennis from a shotmaking, movement, and strategy point of view. i've been fortunate enough to watch great players live going back to laver and rosewall, and there have been some artists (like nastase and others) come along...but there really hasnt been anyone ever i dont believe approaching where Fed is w. his game....and TV elects not to show him...bah and hrumpf......the good news is that TV will be forced to show Fed on TV because he'll be in the finals. ESPN showed the entire Federer/Grosjean match (so far) on its evening show. Wish I had had a blank tape handy, it was stunning to see some of the shots Fed made. Grosjean made a few good ones too.

To clarify what happened on the west coast....
Really early in the morning, as on schedule, ESPN showed the beginning of the Federer-Grosjean match until it got rain-delayed. That was sometime around 5:30/6am? Something like that... Then of course they replayed various matches because of the rain delay and as the coverage of the US Women's Open (golf) began, they stated that they will show Federer-Grosjean at 5pm (PST, 8pm EST). The agreement between NBC and ESPN is that ESPN does Federer and NBC does Roddick match. It was implied last night and at the start of the morning coverage. So now to NBC on the west coast. They repeated the East Coast broadcast, and I'm pretty sure it was close to exact. They show rain delay coverage (MORE WOMENS SEMIFINAL MATCHES), and then they show Roddick-Ancic match. As promised. This coverage ends somewhere around 3pm PST, as expected, and they did cover what they said they would. Then, at 5pm PST, ESPN as promised showed the Federer match (and I imagine this was shown 8pm EST). WALA, it was shown, and in fact, nobody was jipped except that the west coast got the Roddick match 3 hours later than the East Coast (because local NBC stations didn't just trim out the rain delay coverage and just show the semifinal match). FOR THE MOST PART, NOBODY GOT JIPPED TODAY (but boy did we get screwed on Monday on the West Coast) EXCEPT FOR THREE HOURS OF RODDICK COVERAGE--WE HAD TO WAIT FOR THAT. SO... I DO NOT KNOW WHY ANYONE IS REALLY COMPLAINING ABOUT THE FEDERER COVERAGE EXCEPT FOR THE ASSUMPTION THAT THEY HAVEN'T BEEN PAYING ATTENTION AND THEY FLIP THE TV ON AND OFF WHEN THEY SEE A WOMENS MATCH INSTEAD OF LOOK FOR THE REMINDERS/UPDATES AROUND COMMERCIAL BREAK!!! So to summarize.... -ESPN showed Federer match up until rain delay, tried to hold onto their coverage until the US Womens Open (which is until 11am) and so under contract they pulled and had no idea that rain would cease about 30 minutes later. They promised Federer-Grosjean later tonight and they fulfilled that. -NBC never intended to show Federer-Grosjean match for various reasons including an agreement with ESPN. They showed all that they could of the Roddick match. NOW, does everyone understand that? It's true we got screwed on Monday on the west coast, and I thought that sucked. But for the ones who only wanted to watch Federer, ESPN showed that match later that night (albeit not 100% of it, but pretty much 60-70%). And tonight, they showed all of the Federer-Grosjean match. ESPN DID NOT CHEAT US OUT OF FEDERER TODAY! And if you missed that... they're reshowing Federer-Grosjean match at 12:00am PST. Check it out! -Chanchai |
