Default Mardy Fish's failed delray beach comeback attempt

Lost to a nobody, some German guy named Simon Greul, ranked outside the top 100, who was 0-4 at the ATP level until today...

...I was kind of hoping that maybe he'd come back and have had time to train and maybe get some sort of game going like he had for a bit - but doesn't seem like that'll be the case.

Give the guy a chance. He's coming back after a very long break. This isn't women's tennis.

Well, at least Mardy said it wasn't his wrist that caused the loss. He said it was the rust.

Nope. He's definitely not Hingis. That's for sure...

Thank you. Those jerks who twist every situation to bash the WTA are always looking to inject some negativity in every thread. Hingis is a terrific player. Fish is a terrific choker.

I didn't mean the comment to bash the WTA, you just don't see players coming back into the ATP after long lay-off without taking a some losses while getting into the swing of things. Hingis's comeback has some to do with the skill of the players out there, but I think it has more to do with the incredibly high level skill she possesses.

Mardy who? How does this guy earn a living outside of tournament winnings? I think Spadea had a larger tax return than Fish.....

I haven't been following Mardy Fish's entire career, but I don't recall ever seeing him be anything more than a joke. That wrist must have been injured for years.

C'mon, the guy won an Olympic silver medal...

... then promptly dropped out of sight.

Not true. I remember the summer when he made two straight TMS finals - that's no joke. Olympic silver medal. Helping the US stay in the world group, winning a match on his worst surface (clay) after Roddick had lost his singles.

He was never all that great, but there was a pretty long period of time when he wasn't "a joke".

Yeah, I'm just being harsh on the guy. I've seen bits and pieces of some of his matches and he didn't impress me at all, so I have a grudge.

should get to Europe or South America and get some good coaching and physical training. the coaches in US don't work him out enough, he's considered a "star" (hm .....)

I remember people here talking about how Mardy Fish had the talent to blow out top players. He plays an attacking game and when his game is on he really can play well, I dont think he has the talent to ever play that well that consistently. But you did see he can play real ball, he took out robredo 3 and 2 on clay and though it was a dead rubber, Robredo should have had the advantage on that surface and I dont think he wouldve wanted to lose that badly in front of his home crowd

Um, Mardy has never made 2 TMS finals PERIOD.

He made it to the finals of Cincy in '03 where he lost to Roddick. He promptly lost 1st rd the next year.

Mardy definitely LOST the Gold. Massu was a wounded duck and Mardy still choked.

Hmm, you're right. I could've sworn that Mardy also made the finals of the one that was the week before that, but I just checked his record and he didn't. Sorry 'bout that, good call.

Mardy has to be one of the slowest players ever on the tour. He needs to do some serious plyometric work if his body will allow it.

Mardy has a lot of game but not enough desire.
