It was better then, that was in 2006 and 2007. But then youtube exploded and became the dominant player during that period. I used mpeg or wmv at that time for my clips.

Those same clips when uploaded to youtube diminish in quality quite significantly, which is annoying. Having said that, youtube have improved significantly since Google purchased it in 2008.

The problem with youtube is they use flash, and picture quality always diminishes in flash. Not only that, but the picture always becaomes slightly jerky in flash, which is not good for fast moving sports.

But youtube is mass market and its the best way to reach a large audience quickly.

Thanks.

What I really enjoy is making clips that make people laugh, like crazy moments in tennis, or the one when Courier aimed the shot straight at the umpire!

You can try using vimeo. It is way smoother and higher quality than
youtube. Check out this sample video I uploaded:

As someone who has been hit in the head as a chair umpire in a professional match, no I don't really find it amusing. Sorry.

Yes I'd heard about the Stefan Edberg situation. That was unfortunate. To be fair, the only reason I find it amusing is because no one got hurt.

Interesting that you were a professional umpire at one stage.

Laurie, you have absolutely nothing to apologize for. Yes, many of us found it funny....I also have that match on VHS tape, it was hilarious. Yes, of course if Jim had actually hurt Dana it wouldn't be funny at all, but that didn't happen. After all, it's always funny until Dana loses an eye! MUHAHAHAAHAHA!

Was Jim's action ill-advised? Most certainly but talking about death is asinine. It's completely unrealistic. I'd be more concerned about eye damage, and even that is quite a stretch, though sunglasses could be dangerous in that situation. As for Edberg, that happened once in tennis history, to a very unhealthy man. The lawsuit itself is a complete waste of societies resources. His death could not be forseen, and the serve itself was not even the cause, but merely a trigger in a chain of events.

I go to tournaments regularly in England and Europe, including Roland Garros. Do you umpire any matches there?

I haven't worked in Europe since Roland Garros 2008. I don't work much as an umpire anymore. Just some challengers in the U.S. now when I can fit it in with my real job schedule.
