First set goes to DelPo, 6-4. 2 aces and a winner to serve it out.

It is in the deciding set now and Anderson escapes break point on his serve at 2-3 with 3 straight aces. Remember he's beaten Murray in Montreal and gave Novak a fight in Miami, so a very dangerous apponent that south african is.

Del potro continuing his rise and proving the haters wrong. Up next hopefully Tsonga, could be a good match.

Fish (7th in Race), Berdych (8th), Almagro (10th), and Simon (11th) all lose in the 1st Round of their events. Del Potro (and Tipsy, I suppose) should make the most out of this week.

Fish out of Basel 1st Rnd = 0 points Berdych out of Basel 1st Rnd = 0 points Tipsy out of Basel 1st Rnd = 0 points Almagro out of Valencia 1st Rnd = 0 points Simon out of Valencia 1st Rnd = 0 points Delpo thru to 2nd Rnd Valencia = +45 points Monfils thru to QF Valencia = +90 points .................................................. ....... Delpo is scheduled to play 2nd Rnd tomorrow, thursday evening, versus K.Anderson (Del beat And last week in Vienna, but it was a 3-set battle). I'm guessing the result w/b the same tomorrow ... that match really took a lot out of delpo in vienna, so it would be nice if he could win in straights tomorrow . . . |

Almagro/Tipsarevic both say they need to reach Paris final to stand a chance to qualify for the World Tour Finals yet Del Potro who is beneath both players says he's "looking to climb" - is this cos he still stands a chance to be in London because he's playing Valencia?

Currently, the cut is at 3325 - anyone with points above that is qualified for London. That numbers is reduced as the tournaments go by. DelPo currently is sitting on a very strong 2270 so far. So behind Ferrer who last qualified, Tsonga/Fish/Berdych/Tipsarevic/Almagro are all in Delpo's way - but have all lost in the last week. So Del Potro has to take advantage of this week with his competitors all at a loss. Check here - http://live-tennis.eu/race |

If Delpo makes the finals he moves ahead of Tipsy and Almagro into 9th in the race, but only just. In that case he would also need at least the finals in Bercy to move into the top 8 (and need at least one of Tsonga/Fish/Berdich to lose early), much the same as Tipsy and Almagro. If he wins the tournament, he'll still be 9th but will only be like 260 points behind Berdych, 285 behind fish, so a SF finish in Bercy might well be enough for him to qualify, depending on how those ahead of him do. |
