I think it's more a case that people knocked Rusedski here on these boards, and I have been mostly in agreeance with what was written about him.

I don't think I've seen any knocking of Tim. Most people respect his sportsmanship, his effort to be a S&V player, and just generally being a good bloke. People here may have knowcked his results but not the man.

Andy Murray sounds like a breath of fresh air and that he just beat my countryman is a feather in his hat.

How did Lleyton's retrieving game stack up against Andy???

You have no idea how torn I was. I've adored most Aussie players, (though there'll only be one Pat Rafter :wub but I've loved Lleyton since he beat mark Petchey (now, ironically Andy's coach) to get into the Aus Open) I think he was about 16.

I think you're right aboutTim. There's no more vicious ****ging of him than a British internet board. Most of them wouldn't know one end of a tennis racquet from another, so it's just pure ignorance. Still makes me mad.
But patriotism comes first in this instance. I think andy has the potentia to be a top ten player, in a year or so...he has a bit of growing to do yet.

Thought Lleyton was on the up, the way he chewed up Spadea (he's been playing badly enough to lose even to him) but even tho haven't yet seen the match I think Murray has possibly played a couple of blinders. He might have shocked himself into a bit of a letdown slump, but hope not. To me he hasn't got the steely resolve of the young Hewitt and Nadal, but neither did Fed at the same age of course. Murray and Gasquet are the only youngns I like the look of so far. Monfils - Bah!
As for Roddick and (to a lesser extent) Hewitt - not looking good!

this is amazing - beating Roddick and Hewitt in successive matches.

His first ATP title - oh, my.
I'm quite overcome

I'm simultaneously gutted for Lleyton, because he needed to win this title badly...and for Roddick, come to that, for exactly the same reason (it always puzzles me how down on Roddick people are on this board, I think he's a great guy, a good sportsman and a fine player, even though he's been going through a pretty bad patch).

However, this is a great day for Murray, and for British tennis.

Wish I could have seen it, but duty calls, and staying up all night wasn't possible - still, I've got up early enough to see a bit of Johnny Mac, which is quite a treat.

I saw that, too

another fine Aussie sportsman. Fights to the death but a good loser. I also remember how gracious he was in defeat after getting completely trounced by Federer in the USO final two years ago.

In other news, it was great just seeing Jonny Mac receiving his gazillionth ATP trophy for the doubles.

Losing finalist Goldstein made a rather moving speech about Mac as a hugely positive force in the game of tennis, and I may be mistaken, but I could have sworn I saw Mac wipe away a tear....

Nah, no tears from McEnroe. Just a nod and a thank you. His only emotions are anger and outrage, and maybe a little bit of happiness after each of those many wins.

This tournament was won by the oldest man and the youngest man. Pretty cool. Andy Murray looks like he has a huge future ahead of him, and McEnroe looks like his legend is going to grow even more. No one's going to be talking about that failed talk show after this. "He can still play? Whoa..."

Struck me how dry Murray was during the award ceremony. Didn't make him very endearing but I guess he was just wiped out. What a difference to Crybaby Federer!

Yeah...the crowd laughed a lot when Murray was asked how he felt and he said something like "it's great" in that emotionless voice. He's just a kid, though, and as an athlete in training he didn't exactly have a great social life. He only really smiled when he was with his girlfriend and team.

Roddick beat himself and self-destructed. The umpire who gave a horrendous bad call last year to give Ginepri the Indianapolis win was at San Jose. Yes, he gave Roddick another bad call on a big point.
Roddick imitated McEnroe and this is the consequence after years of laziness.

Hewitt simply isn't well rounded enough no matter how fast he runs. He was fortunate that Murray made many careless mistakes.

nice try comparing the flood of emotions in winning a 7th gs further solidying your place with the sport's all time greats, with winning a run of the mill tourney in silicon valley

Winning a run of the mill tourney, your FIRST title, and beating 2 former world #1's in the process. Murray had the two biggest wins of his career on consecutive days.
