Default Video for tennis dads.

This video ties in nicely to the raising tennis kids dynamic we were discussing. This girl is playing the Herr right now.

Rarely do you see someone post raw footage of a tennis dad pushing the kid verbally, the girl quits at the end. Usually You Tube footage is sanitized. And man, this little kid can wallop the ball! If you think your 9 year old can hit, this might give you a frame of reference.

Check out her very last forehand at the 3:07 mark....damn!

Ouchie!

That is some horrible technique! She obviously has some "talent" as she gives it a good crack when it's in her strike zone, but as soon as she has to move a little it's game over for that swing!

I feel sorry for her as it's entirely not her fault, but poor, poor coaching. Imagine how good she could be with improved technique!

Cheers

What?!?! Did you catch the last part?

"It hurts right here and here", she says pointing to her kidneys. "Can I please go to the bathroom?"

"No..."

Yup, dad is yelling at her for not getting to the ball. Perhaps he should yell at the coach!

But yeah, she can crack the stuffing out of the ones hit right to her!

I don't get it, is the dad the coach or the guy feeding the coach? Anyhow this dad is nuts,, I predict he will kill his daughters tennis career.

This girl is very well developed for a 9 yr. old, strong legs, broad shoulders, defined arms.

I not in the camp of, "hit everything as hard as you can" at that age.

Dad was running the camera talking.

By the way, that girl could be my girl's twin body wise, even hair color wise and basic features. Even the attitude is close. My girl is only 7 but was blessed with that type of frame.

I agree, my kid was in a similar situation, we have stopped clinics and USTA and now only do privates ( 1.5) three times a week plus basketball roller blading and fitness, for improving legs.

True, in some ways I will be glad to hand her coaching off in another year or so. I know that may sound strange. But I do not want to risk our relationship becoming like I saw in that video.

I handed mine off to three coaches, and in a year ( maybe less) we will stick with one that he likes and is most comfortable with.

I totally disagree. This girl and her dad have a playful relationship and I do not see her being verbally abused. She also has a good game even during a match while being moved around the court. The clip below shows that. Also the coach is just feeding for the video that day. He is more than likely a very good coach. Watch the clips.

Except that there are no balls on the court to pick up. I have a boy and girl and the girl has to go 3x as often as the boy. Sounds real to me.

Just saw that this player has reached the QF round at the Eddie Herr in the 12s, so she can probably hit the ball in the court when necessary.

I agree he didn't necessarily seem abusive. It seems she was giving it right back to him. Perhaps, that's how they relate to each other.

He was, however, one of those annoying parents that won't shut it during a the lesson. He should let the coach do his job.

As for her game, it does look loads better in the videos you posted. In the first video, her balls were all over the place. I wonder what the coach was trying to accomplish. It looked like a mess though her racquet head speed was tremendous for her age.

I also think it's adorable that they have her videos listed as "tennis kid" rather than "the future star" .."the next maria sharapova"...or "tennis prodigy" like some nutty parents do.
