Yes, she is moving much better here. The serve needs some fundamental work though. No use letting such a hard working kid dead end with that serve some day. Here is a better view of the serve, have to nip that strange wind up in the bud, looks like she is playing Jai alai. She actually hits them pretty hard even with that flaw. If she fixes that serve, it could be sweet.

He pushes her pretty hard, but I like that she said assertively, "you have to move back" when he was crowding her. It doesn't seem like she's being emotionally beaten down. She'll be fine.

I think we are all talking out of school here. The original video was a dad being a verbal jerk and not really contributing anything constructive. Some posters thought it was too much, others were okay with it.

As far as "she'll be fine"....thats what he considers suitable for You Tube and public consumption...who the heck knows what he says when the camera is off.

How many tennis dads here would allow that first video to be posted? Even if they said stuff like that, they would feel lame and keep it private. So again, when the camera is off, who knows. At the very least he is a meddlesome guy who has no clue about tennis so should keep quiet.

Ha, cool kid my friend! Looks good.

A few minor things on the forehand. I think if he held the off hand extension down the baseline a tad longer, he would be 'loaded' up for more power. Stand behind him and say, load, hold, hold, explode.....get him to hold that rotation until he is ready to explode into the ball.

Also, look at the view from behind his forehands. His back foot kind of drags the toes, robbing him of some power. Have him explode and let his body come around more with the stroke. A wild guess, he plays baseball? From behind that toe drag reminds me of a baseball swing.

Nice job, looks like a solid little athlete having fun.

Thanks he is having fun. Thanks for the input. I think the take back on the backhand is too much too. His racket gets parallel with the back fence.

Actually he has not played baseball. He has played every other sport from disc golf to swim team , basketball and football.

By coincidence I watched part of her EH match today. She was thoroughly outplayed by a very skillful opponent 2 years her older and much taller. But I did see a few crazy forehand winners. I also watched some G14?? match today around 7pm on Center court. Not sure who these girls were but they also could hit the crap out of the ball but with a nice topspin so they could control their shots. Better to spend time and money on improving technique instead of trying to take on the world at 10.

Thanks to the OP for posting the video. I have been trying to find video on YouTube of her after seeing her ranking at her age and being in EH.
@ maggmaster - is she at the court all day? I see that she does online schooling. Does she go to an academy or just do privates with a really good coach? Trying to find the secret to success in the *******

@ TCF - please pm me to set up a playdate for our daughters when we're there in March

Not all day, but then again neither am I. I see them there quite a bit. I don't know anything about the training program, sorry.

I'll agree with that, but that doesn't mean she is being horribly abused as some posters seem to conclude.

I will say that she seems to enjoy the game a lot more than some of the other high performance juniors. Many of the parents ask me to hit with their kids, she seems content to hit with her coach or father.

By the way, here is the girl that beat her at the Herr yesterday. Check out the grip on the forehand. I know she is having success right now in the 12s.....but anyone think that grip will maximize her long term chances of success? Sure some pros even hit with different grips, but to me you are better off stacking the odds and going with a more traditional grip.

Wow, I would break my wrist trying to flatten out a high ball.

Yeah, the grip hurts just looking at it. I am just amazed what coaches allow kids to get away with as long as they are winning in the 12s-14s.

Agree, that's just too extreme. Why would any good teaching pro allow that kind of grip.

That's part of the curse of being tops in 12 & 14's, then fading away in the 16 & 18's.

I played juniors through the fourteens and my coach let me get away with only having a slice backhand, there are lots of bad coaches out there.

You nailed it right on the head. It really angers me. A hard working girl, built nicely for tennis, putting in the time, competing.

And very likely to run straight into a brick wall some day because her coach at age 8-9 did not take the time to fix her grip.
