For me, NXT plays well until it breaks. Unfortunately, it breaks a bit prematurely so it doesn't get much of a chance to decline.

The guy I played yesterday was surprised that it lasted as long as synthetic gut for him (3 to 4 sets). Another guy I play uses NXT as his "go to" setup and he only gets about 5 sets out of it. |

Mikeler,
Great thread...I'm a long time synthetic gut user that has only dabbled here and there with a few multis. I'm thinking about stringing up my I prestige mid with a full bed of pro supex maxim touch 17. I'm currently using psgd 17, and it feels too harsh, even at mid tension. I don't break strings that often, so I usually only change them when the tension drops too low. The tension range for the prestige is 48-58. Should I just string right it in the middle, or would you suggest going a little higher?

Maxim Touch has a lot more power than PSGD, so consider a tension between the mid and upper range. |

I got to hit for a couple of hours with Prince Premiere Attack last night. I can see why this string is quickly developing a fan base. I could identify no negatives with PPA. While it didn't strike me as outstanding in any one particular area, it performed very well in all aspects. Like I said, it has only been a couple of hours of hitting, but so far, PPA seems like a straight-forward multi with great performance at its price.

It is a little different from most multis but in a good way. Very much like the more expensive LT but softer. Hopefully I get a chance to play with it past tonight since my timing and footwork are not the greatest right now. |

I never said it was cheap. You're right, though, it is somewhat middle of the pack price-wise but I look at string pricing like this: <$10=cheap, $10-$15=mid-priced. $15-$20=premium priced multi and >$20=gut. Cheaper strings I recall using are $6.50 (at the time) RIP Control (not right for me). $5 Alpha Gut2K (good) and $4 OGSM (nice to firm up a soft racquet, not sure I'd like it in my current, stiffer frame). I've found better playability in multis near the $10 point, where it makes sense to spend the extra $4-$6 and I'm speaking of the last two multis I've tried - Isospeed Pro classic and PPA. I love Gamma Pro ($20), but I don't find it to be worth $10 more than the other two, particularly the Isospeed and I see no value for me to spend an extra $20 on natural gut.Interested in reading your review...

Thanks.
I was ready to bite the bullet on Gamma Pro as my regular string, but gave myself time to find an acceptable alternative at $10 or less. RIP didn't cut it, but I think ICC and PPA have. P.S. Thanks for changing your avatar. It was scaring my children.

$20 for a multifilament string is too much. |

Thunder Blast is also good. I think just for the softness I like PPA better so far. The avatar change is most welcome. |

I agree. I'm glad I came to my senses.

Thunder Blast does not have that random springiness of RIP Control. Spin is pretty good with it and when you hit the sweet spot, it has an X1 like feel. Still, it is stiffer than PPA no question about it. I believe MultiFeel changed their formula and is stiffer now. |

Amen to that. If you shop for bargains you don't have to pay that much for a premium quality string. I played with Premier LT ($16 normally but free with my racquet) today and I think it's still getting better. In fact, it reminds me of PPA on my Babolat, LOL. I'm anxious to see how PPA plays on my Ki 5x when Premier LT breaks.
I think NXT belongs in that mid-priced category when you consider the mini-reel, but I'm not sure it's a great value due to how quickly it starts to fray. If Wilson packaged a more durable version of NXT (maybe NXT Max?) in a mini-reel for that price, I'd be very interested in that. |

I got rid of the Babolat APDGT and picked up the Pro Kennex Ki 5x. It's much easier on my arm, and I can swing more freely with it because of the lower power, so I'm happy.
Unfortunately, I'm having a hard time finding someone who will buy my old racquets because of the 4-5/8" grip. Does anyone out there have big hands? |
