many say that nadal will have to quit his career due to injuries because of his playing style (i doubt that).
what about roddick? how long can his shoulder take 140 mph serves game after game? i think that the first serve is physically the toughest shot in tennis (if hit very hard) |

Rusedski is almost 33 and he can bomb them in close to 140 mph still. Goran also had a long career as well as a huge serve.

The serve will tighten up with the years, but I doubt it'll injure him. The motion does not seem that damaging, but it relies a lot on flexibility and energy.

Roddick uses a lot of wrist action on the serve so I can see it falling off one day.

wow, how wrong u guys are, i read an article on this website(i'm afraid u'll have 2 search 4 it urself), Roddciks big serve is due to great technique, including good knee bend, good turn of hip and shoulder that add to his whip of the wrist, along with a good back arch...

I think Roddick's motion looks more violent than it actually is, because he has such an abrupt takeback and toss. But from the time the toss leaves his hand through the swing, he's doing nothing with his arm that's all that different from any other pro (maybe a little more wrist snap). He gets his legs into his serve better than any other player in the world, and that's the main engine of his power. Obviously, he's been given certain physical gifts that allow him to generate incredible racquet speed, and it seems like his body can handle it. If he was going to hurt his arm with his current serving motion, I think it would have happened already.

Roddicks serve motion looks like it is as easy on the body as can be....he gets most of his power from his legs, and doesn't tax his back or shoulder excessively...he also benefits from an extremely limber arm, which may become less so as he gets older, but will be fine as long as he continues proper weight training and stretching, which I'm sure he will, as he seems very dedicated to fitness...
using a Babolat Pure Drive strung in the high 60's with polyester string on the other hand....I don't know that he has tennis elbow issues at the moment, but I hoe that does not become an issue... |

It seems to be the stiffer serves that cause problems, like Moya's serve. Roddick relies on what Patrick McEnroe calls the "Gumby arm." The arm just whips like it's made of rubber.
