Would be curious to see how much time you would get out of PPA. Hint, hint.

I went light. It's so easy on me to play with 11oz sticks vs 12. I am a spin hitter with open stance and all that modern crap. I went 6.1..then lighter with the Pro Open which is the Wilson Pure Drive (awesome). I then really started missing the XL racquets and demoed a Pure Drive plus since there is no Pro Open plus...and here I am.

I don't think I ever said the 6.1 was perfect, but my god is it good. I would still say it is amazing, but it is 12.5 ozs and I don't like "letting the racquet do the work".

And I switch racquets a lot..lol.

Well it sounds like the PPA may last longer? The RIP has not busted on me yet (2 hours in). The last RIP I used lasted 4 hours, but it was 17 gauge.

If I get 12-19 hours out of it, I'm going to be very very happy and buy a reel. If It breaks after 4-8, I already have my list:

Iontec 1.25
my 6.1 gut mains/msv poly setup.
And this PPA that seems to be rather durable. I know Mikeler is a string breaker as well.

I break strings faster now that I went to a lighter stick, but my control and pace and spin AND serve is all better so it is worth it.

Up&Comer have you used 16 gauge rip in a full job before? Just wondering if you did and how long you got out of it.

^^ The 16 gauge lasted me longer than any other multi I used, but I don't remember exactly how long it lasted. Maybe 3 hours?

Hey, Mike---do you think I should try a set of PPA 17, when I'm pretty used to Mantis Comfort and Rip Control 17 right now?

I'm having trouble serving for long periods on days where I lift weights the previous day. Makes me think I need to go to a lighter stick like the Exo Tours at times. Then when I take a day off before playing tennis, I seem to play great the next day most times. I can really take a good whack at the ball with the 7G so it would be hard to give up.

thats what lead me to the PD+..EXO tour was a little too low powered (but super comfortable), 6.1s were rather tiring certain days after lifting weights. the extended sticks hit so big stock that you get the best of both worlds.

Of course it's a stiff racquet..hence my foray into this thread.

Start with PPA and go from there. I still have 5 more multi tests upcoming.

I love PPA. I had it strung on my spare Ki 5x, and if it plays like it did on my APDGT it will probably be my go to multi. I only played with it for about 5 hours on my APDGT, but I knew from looking at it that it would probably go another 5 hours.

However, for pure durability my money is on RIP Control 16. I've played with it long enough to know it's tough as nails. It would have gone 20 hours if I let it, but I was getting sick of looking at it for so long I cut it at 19!

^^^

If the RIP is the most durable then it's my string. Let me see how long it deals with my topspin.

Thanks. Actually I did not like ss at 53. Wanted to go lower so have strung b5 @ 51. Let's see how it goes.

So the RIP 16 has a lot better durability vs. the 17? And how much playability drop? I have an 18x20 racquet, and don't break strings as much as some.

Got almost 11 sets of singles and 2 sets of doubles now on PPA. Still hanging in there. I may go ahead and write the review and update the durability/tension maintenance later.
