If something is given away, it is perceived as having no worth to kids.
Makes tennis seem worthless.
Hmmm, how to make them earn it? How to make it seem like a valuable prize?
Not sure myself, but things to think about to make your gift worthwhile.

Tell your wife that she can buy a pair of shoes for every racquet you own.

Man, you cant tell your wife everything... those 180 "lovers" is something you have to hide from her. Keep them away from her, dont let them meet.. It will only cause conflicts.

While I would never advocate lying to your wife, I have adopted the simple answer when a racket shows up at the house and she asks how many I have, "too many." Keeps things much more simple and saves me from needing to count.

Believe me, when 'trial' rackets became popular, many a new racket was passed off with: "Oh, that? It's just a demo I'm trying" .

My wife actually listens with interest (or pretends to anyway) as I describe how great the latest racquet addition performs, and how its different from the others in my posession. I've cut down the collection to about 30, but have probably owned 70+ over the last few years.

Personally I would have a problem with my wife telling me how many racquets I should own. I don't comment on her purchases and she doesn't comment on mine - works for us. And no, you can't have her.

I have close to a 100. My wife has stopped believing the "it's a demo that I will soon sell" line a while back and of course she sees the credit card statements as well.
After every big splurge, I take a break for a few weeks to get things back to normal. There is no long time solution to this issue though. Recently I succumbed to pressure and sold about 10 and after a week, spent that money to buy another 12.

... where's Hall of Fame ... ?

Looking back, I'm still in awe of his collection when I visited him last May.

I have something around 120+ and my wife has gotten use to the growing numbers. It's like she prefers that I spend on rackets than on booze.

Sell them if they are rare racquets, give them away if they aren't really worth anything, or practice your racquet smashing skills because thats a skill more overlooked than the return of serve.

I've got over 600 now....
OK, most of them are to be sold but still.....
Check out my site, go to Collectors Talk and click the "Opening VTG" album to get an idea how I managed to squeeze them all in a 3 x 6 meter garage box.

Hope this doesn't happen to you! (the italian guy says " When your wife tells you DON'T GO TO PLAY TENNIS TODAY, better if you listen to what she is saying!):

^^^ I've been at it for about 4 1/2 years now.
Most of these frames are for trade but many find their way into my racket bag and will never be sold. I'm not really a collector but it does feel that way when you see the number I have today.
It will take me forever to auction these of and I'm constantly on the look out for more classics that are of any value.
The total value of all rackets is estimated at 35,000 euro and insured for 50,000 euro.

Check this link and see how I manage to hang 25 rackets per yard by using curtain rails...

Thumbs up

Time to trade the wife for more racquets. Problem solved. Use her closet for more racquet storage.

Would a 'collector' that says they're not, but possesses that much stuff be considered a not a collector but a hoarder?

I'm on the hoarding side of things.....
