Default That holy rafter vs sampras match

I know there has been a thread on this somewhere, but I can't seem to find it.
Anyway, my question is, what was that match where sampras served and made a hole in rafter's racquet?

1999 Cincinnati Final.

Pmac to Luke Jensen, "Have you ever seen that before?"
Luke: "Maybe in a cartoon"

The serve that went through was a fault, so Sampras got 2 serves since Rafter had to get another racquet.

Soon after that match Rafter ended his season due to a shoulder injury.

After the Sampras match Rafter said he aggravated the injury by catching a return late. Sampras was serving very hard that day.

It was timed at 132mph, went clean through the strings and still hit the backboard on 2nd bounce.

At least the racquet fared better than his fashion sense.

Wow those are some ugly boxers. Did the Sampras serve rip off Rafter's shorts too??

I wonder what would have happened if Sampras' serve hit Rafter's body instead of the string bed....

It would leave a nice bruise... don't exaggerate it. If Rafter got hit in the head, he may get knocked out, but he won't be killed.

Well, if he was hit in the genitals which is more likely than the head because it's lower, he probably would have stolen some cyanide in the hospital and taken his own life. So Sampras' serve in effect would have killed him.
