Default 5 top ten wins

With Nalby losing today, it ended the possibility that he might have to beat Nadal/Fed/Djoker to win a tourney, and a total of 5 top ten guys. When thinking about it, you could possibly be ranked as high as #17 and have to do it, which seems almost unfair to be ranked so high, and still have to have that tough a draw, but anyhow, anyone know if a player has defeated 5 top ten players in a single tournament, Mustard??

the closest I can recall was Wilander beating the #2, 3, 4, & 5 seeds to win the French.

I assume you want to discount the World Tour Finals?

Otherwise, Federer in 2011, 2010 (1,3,4,5,7 I think it was) etc. etc.

Yes, wasn't considering the WTF, because that's usually only the top 8.

Guillermo Canas came so close to achieving this feat when he defeated Safin(2), Haas(3), Kafelnikov(5), Federer(10), and Roddick(12) in Montreal '02.

Check out Nalbandian's draw at the 2007 Madrid Masters.

2nd round - Berdych
3rd round - Del Potro
QF - Nadal
SF - Djokovic
F - Federer

If Del Potro didn't pull off an upset (remember it's 2007) and beat Robredo who was top 10 at the time, Nalbandian could've gone 5 out of 5 against top 10 players in that tournament.

Nalbandian also beat 4 top 10 players in Paris just weeks later and 5 top 15 players.

Wow, I really don't know what to say. Now that is a well deserved title.

Technically, Roddick was already Top10 (#10) by reaching that final

He also almost repeated the feat in 2007, when he beat #1 Federer, #6 Robredo, #7 Ljubicic and then lost to #10 Djokovic in the finals (M1000 Miami)

That's right, I'd forgotten that. And Federer fell out of the top ten the following week, and wouldn't return for the next two months.
