Default Maintained wealth or Loss Wealth

I remember Bjorn Borg filing for bankruptcy at one time, who were the others? On the flip side, which former players maintained their wealth from their tennis earnings?

I can safely say that Roscoe Tanner was probably bankrupt, probably still is and probably will be for the rest of his life. On a flipnote, Tirac actually became a billionaire after he retired from tennis, setting up mobile phone companies all throughout his native Romania. Very successfull and gifted business man. And people say he used to ripoff his tennis clients from percentages of their earnings like B.Becker, etc...I say he really did'nt need to as he was making money from other ventures.

I always heard that Borg's loss of wealth was greatly exaggerated and that in fact he was still sitting on a few million even when he made his monetary struggles public. Maybe others could shed more light.

It was reported, and Borg never denied, that he put about 2 or 3 million dollars in his parents' names before he went bankrupt, for them to hold and protect that money for him. A friend of mine has a condo in Vero Beach and takes lessons from Tanner every time he goes down there. Roscoe ekes out a living but does not seem to be well set-up.

Stefan Edberg seems to have done something clever with his winnings

Ivan Lendl I am sure has maintained/increased his wealth (although having five daughters has probably taken its toll ) - I think Jerry Solomon said he was always very astute money wise.

Don't know about the women's side.

Evert's Dad picked her investments for a long time and she has no complaints. She has stayed out of the food stamp lines even though she married three men who probably got a nice slice of her pie in the end.

Who was that female tennis player who blamed her parents for wasting all the money she made from tennis?

Was pretty recent too

LOL!!!!!

Greg Norman has made more than ten times as much as Evert, if anyone wound up with 'a slice of the pie', he would have hardly been on the receiving end...

This was what I was talking about in that Stakhovsky thread. Edberg's comment at the bottom is quite meaningful!

Quote:
However, he thinks awareness among top tennis players about what to do with their wealth is absent and he hopes he can help. 'The knowledge isn't there, but the key is to find the right people or you might end up in trouble.'

He already has some sports people as clients but is looking to get more from that segment in the future. 'We are looking into that sort of business; maybe we could steer them away from trouble,' Edberg said.
Typical of softspoken, quiet and understated Stefan. Means he knows that tennis players are money idiots.
