true, when talking about nadal, it's hard to get away from the word intense. I think, however, his physical intensity comes from his mental intensity, his never back down approach. The Bull metaphor is a bit tired, I always thought he charged around more like a stallion anyway, not so much a bull, but the bull metaphor does kind of nail the heels dug in, horns lowerd, hold your ground psychology he has, which he totally physicalizes in his posture and the way he moves around the court. It's so dominant and willfull. I'm jealous.

Tennis fans have tended to polarize for decades along similar lines, be it with the aggressive boistrous McEnroe (or Connors) versus the reserved quiet Borg, or the taciturn Sampras versus the gregarious amiable Agassi. Several years ago fans polarized towards either the dapper amiable Federer or the hulkish bull-in-a-china-shop Nadal. I think things are actually less polarized now than they've been in prior decades now that people have discovered that Nadal (and Djokovic, and Murray) are all pleasant fellows who seem to all get along reasonably well.
I call it the primitive, vestigial, genetic, survival instinct for tribalism. It explains a lot more than competing political parties and is a human trait that is regularly exploited by poltical demagogues and capitalist propagandists. It explains perhaps a majority of human behavior, including, but not limited to, racism, nationalism, regionalism, religious sectarianism, fraternalism, sports fanaticism, school loyalty, and innumerable other ways that humans contrive to manufacture the opportunity to express tribal loyalty.

No problem. They will be correctly assessed with the benefit of historical perspective and hindsight, and then awarded their true and proper historical value, somewhere below and beneath "The Rocket."

Having had the privilege of seeing Michael Jordan and Walter Payton play live, the only tennis player I've seen live whose intensity matches theirs was Rod Laver. I've also seen Nadal live. He is not at that level.

Maybe one Fedal could be replaced by Britman vs the Djoker but Britman needs to step up big time
