Default Are you threatened?

Having a top junior who has been with the same coach for years I am used to many other juniors coming and going trying out the coach. Some have stayed and others haven't. Even my kids direct competition has come. I say nothing to the coach because it is not my place to affect his income. He gives 100% to each student but each kid needs something different. A newer students parents recently lost it when "the competition" tried out the coach. How do you feel about this?

I'm not gonna lie because a couple of years ago I didn't like new girls coming into the academy.I had a very immature attitude. It was like I was jealous of my daughters coach working with other girls my daughters age.It was terrible I would hope that the other girls he worked with would lose when they played tournaments. Now I am the complete opposite.I want new girls at the academy. We go watch the other girls at the academy play tournaments.I give advice and help the other girls when they need it.I don't know why I felt that way was it jealousy or just me feeling threatened? Now I see that if these girls get better it will help my daughter get better.I think a lot of my terrible attitude came from interaction with some of the girls parents. That was another bad quality I had.If I didn't care for the parents it affected the way I felt about the child.I know how terrible that soundsNow I NEVER judge a child by how the parents act.I know I'm not exactly the most like able tennis parent because I'm a little intense some times.Im just glad I changed!!!Kids can pick up on how their parents treat other people and I NEVER want my children to act the way I acted.

Iron sharpens iron.
Be happy he is popular and he's developing a good stable for your kid to grow up with. Very cool.

Yes, you definitely wouldn't want your kid to be the best player at his academy.

That wouldn't help her growth at all.

tennis is a very lonely sport and most successes come when you build a good team, where everyone helps other, which in return, helps themselves .. no man is an island....

No, but as a parent.....
I want my kid to have all the attention.
I want my kid's ego to be stroked so he will be confident going into tournaments.
I want to be the parent everyone looks up to ... not because I'm still a good player or anything, but because my daughter is the big fish in this pond....and I'm the 'it' dad.
I want the coach to design drills around my son's needs.
I want the drills to build on my kid's stengths and help him with his/her weaknesses.
I want my kid to win all of his practice matches.

As a teaching pro....
I want more business.
I want to cooperate with other programs.
I want to hand out a card when people ask for one at tournaments.
I want to be able to watch a lot of my students at tournaments.
I want to develop players who can coach themselves, take ownership of their games and arrange some productive matchplay whether I am watching/coaching or not.
I want my kids to push eachother and get used to different styles of play.

This reminds me of a 'talk' given by a pastor friend of mine...about how differently pastors see a church service as compared to the way his congregation sees it.

When a country like the U.S. or Sweden dominates tennis for a spell, it is because the kids coming up together pushed each other and made each other better.
