At first, I thought it was Wii Grand Slam tennis from the graphics.

Anyone else agrees that of all grand slams, Roland Garros has by far the worst camera angle?

i think people who play tennis are more likely to like the low camera angles. I mean even playing compter game tennis I have to pla a low angle like i'm really playing. But watching on tv although some shots look better and you get a better idea of the pace and spin on the ball, any balls going away from the camera into the other side of the court are much harder to see and you end up not being able to tell if balls are landing in or out. Balls flying towards the camera look great, but the other way it's a pain in the arse. I also hate the tournaments where the camera tracks from side to side on the low angle so you don't have the whole court covered and it has to swing across to track a ball and you don't see where it goes.

Best part about these low angles vs the higher one is as a viewer you get a real idea of just how much spin the pros put on the ball. The way the ball moves when they hit is just so impressive and you dont get a real perspective on it from a 50-100ft view above court.

About as bad as challenger broadcasts. I'm more worried about the upcoming Roland Garros. They're angle at the main stadium court is just no fun to watch at all. Compare it to Wimbledon, Usopen and the Australian Open and it should be evident to everyone how crappy it really is. But they are most probably not going to fix this as its been like this for some decades now. Last edited by djones : 04-16-2012 at 11:21 AM. |

I can't stand the high court angle. Makes tennis look like a boring game of Pong (for those old enough to remember that, lol). As has been said the lower angles show you how hard the players work and the spin they put on the ball.
Amazing the camera technology in other sports while half of tennis tourneys film it like you're watching from a blimp. Such horrible marketing IMO. |

Thanks for the links. I agree that it's the best angle. I love to see how they constantly change the trajectory on their shots. As well as being able to see the amount of top the get on the ball. Crazy what they can do.

Cool. The TV presentation of the current Stuttgart Porsche WTA event on the tennis channel has a court level camera view on some points. It really makes a difference in seeing the pace of the ball. Very nice.

I just came here to write about this. That court level camera in Stuttgart looks like even below court level (an exaggeration of course, the camera is literally on the court), I thought it was sort of annoying.
