Slazenger V-24/Vilas Pro Specs

I found a Slazenger Vilas Pro racket that was my brother in laws. This racket was never ever used it sat in its cover for over 25 years. I'm looking to restore it. The grip was literally turing to dust. What I'm wondering does anyone know the specs for tention for the strings on this racket. In my research I have seen that the Vilas Pro and the V-24 were basically the same racket one was maroon one was purple I think they came out around 1982-1983. Does anyone know what the string tention specs are for either racket?

It was my understanding that the V-24 had more graphite layers or facings to make it stiffer than the Vilas Pro. The V-24 was their top frame at the time (c. 1983); noteworthy that Pat Cash used it, as well as Vilas (who briefly used it before switching to Puma sponsorship). The Vilas Pro was a bit downmarket, although it too is attractive and otherwise appears very similar to the V-24.

Back in the mid-80's, I had some Slazenger literature from the time which explained the difference between the two models, but over the last 25 years, it has gone missing.

I would suggest that you could get away with stringing the frame at up to 60 pounds or so.

I was thinking the same thing if no one knew the exact specs I was going to go with 58 lbs. Thank you so much. If anyone else knows anything else about these rackets it would be greatly appreciated thank you again.

The V-24 has a bigger head than the Vilas Pro, definitely not the same racquet!

I'm curious how much bigger. Do you have any real specs on it. I'm just trying to find out as much as I can about both rackets.

The head sizes are identical - I just checked, as I have them both. The only difference is that the throat "V" of the V-24 is deeper than that of the Pro.

I really remember V-24 having a bigger head, but it obviously didn't!

It's hard to believe that no one on this site would know the recommened string tention for the Slazenger Vilas Pro or the Slazenger V-24. But I guess this kind of information is hard to come by.

I believe Vilas used the Slazenger V-24, but he also used a Head Vilas in the late 1970's. Pat Cash used it as well. No specs found but here's a little more information on that frame from this other thread:

No, the racquets only show their composition. However, I can tell you that the recommended tension for the V-24 is 50-60 lbs. If you need stringing instructions, let me know. I'd type them out now, but it's a chore if you don't actually need them.

To think these were being sold in K Mart back in the day and I overlooked them for my aluminium Slazenger Panther because wood was too old school. Sigh.........

But, I'm guessing you are showing a photo of the Aussie version with the Aussie Slazenger font?

There are 3 versions of the V-24 as far as I'm aware (so there are probably more), that Aussie version and 2 UK versions which are very similar

I didn't realise it was an Oz version - Jens of 80s tennis had never seen one. But it's rare, that's for sure.
