I agree with you that two pairs of socks is too stuffy but to each their own. The Elites are great since they just add extra protection in the forefoot and heel and leave the arch with a thinner material to allow for better ventilation.

Does anyone have any recommendations for other socks that provide as much cushion but are more durable?

Thanks a lot.

Costco carries socks made by Head. They are seriously thick and you get 6 pairs for the price of 1 pair of Thorlos. Once in a while they come in black as well.

I used to have the same durability problem with Thorlos Level 3. But I found a solution for that. Wear another pair of socks over the Thorlos and they last far longer (like 1 month vs over a year).

Of course, not everyone can handle wearing 2 pairs of socks, especially when one of them is the Thorlos, but they feel fine to me.

Thanks for the tips. I wish Costco in Canada would carry those Head socks - they sound great.

For cushioning, I have found getting a cusioned insole and replacing the usual cheap ones that shoes come with does far more than any socks I have tried.

Drymax says that socks don't provide any cushioning. It suggests replacing the insole and/or shoes for improved cushoning.

just wanted to add a question:
i'm pretty satisfied with my level 3 Thorlos ,
but i tend to get holes at the toe-tips really fast..
are there any socks that could somehow help postponing this?

Wear any pair of socks over the Thorlos and they will last 10X longer.

Is the OP not asking about cushioning for the skin (as opposed to knees/ankles)? I would hope no one believes that socks are for cushioning joints, as some makers imply.

Most thick socks only good the first time you use it, and will not as good after the first wash.

The insole is the important part for cushioning, Walmart sells good one at $10 - 415, or of course buy from TW

I don't know. I think that the OP is talking about joint cushioning.
I can't find anything that indicates the OP is looking for skin cushioning.

Found Wigwam Double Sole crew socks are great, last a long time, and inexpensive compared to Thorlos.
