Default Great Racquet

I have found a tension around 53 is good and not so extreme.
I put lead at the 3 and 9 O'clock postions.
I use Biphase/Gut and BHB/Addiction.
I find BHB/Addiction has good control.

I REALLY hope the 4D100 works out for you! I've heard some really awesome things about it! I have a friend who plays with them, and they really are sweet frames! I found it SUPER maneuverable. Perfect for doubles!

Update: been using the 4D100 a bunch of times now. As a comparison with the 'bee', it is def stiffer and crisper, not as plush, but I don't know how much of this is due to using 17g rather than 18g on the bee. It also feels a little 'clunkier'. The frame is thicker in both beam and the other cross-sectional dimension, so I'm not sure if this clunkyness might be a mental thing from my visual take on the frame. And the balance is def different, but without my old bee in my hands to compare I couldn't tell you exactly how.

Don't get me wrong, I'm hitting pretty well with the 4D100, but I'm starting to yearn for the feel of the bee again...

Come back to the darkside....

I've been hitting with it for a while now, and I've been playing excellent! I've actually UPPED the tension to 60/58 with Prince synthetic Duraflex 17, and I've still got a ton of power to spare.

Today during my match I was practicing my reverse forehands, and hitting them Ala Nadal almost as good as he does... almost! This stick provides me with the perfect amount of spin, I absolutely love it!

I actually just picked up a POG Mid and it should be here in the next few days. The only reason I did, was because I found out Prince is discontinuing them, and it's one of the last few mid's I need to get before I own almost every classic mid line! As of now I have: KPS88 x2, RDS 001 Mid, Redondo Mid, Prestige Mid, and now the POG Mid. The only one left after that is the PS85! I just love collecting all the mid's, as they are some of my favorite sticks. I highly doubt I will be moving from the PSL though!

I hear ya. The mids are the elite super models of the racquet world, just gorgeous. And they feel so good in your hands. And taste delicious. Alright I'm getting carried away..

I'm waiting for TW to get more 3/8 PS85s. I think they said Oct.

Mids are just gorgeous! I love them, and plus the look pretty when I have them hanging on my wall...

I hope to get a PS85, but right now I'm just trying to finish my season with the PSL!

My new 2011 ltd. GT came two days ago with a full bed of Black Code 17 at 57 lbs. I hit with it yesterday and loved it; I may lower the tension a little bit next time though. Unless I just need to break in the strings.

I know poly and co-poly strings are all the rage today, but the PSLGT really comes to life with a quality multi or even natty gut. Its a low powered frame and putting a string in that is lower powered really makes the player have to work that much harder when it comes time to apply significant pace. On the other hand, because of the frame's low power, you can get away with using a multi at lower tensions and still get great pace while maintaining all the control provided by the stick. The downside is multis break relatively quickly, but then poly strings go dead rather quickly.

It's worth considering.

Hey Fuji! I hope you get a couple of the PS85's as they truly are remarkable sticks. I bet you will continue on with the PSL as your goto stick though! In the end the PSL is like a more forgiving version of the PS85 and holds up better in tough matches today. I recently gave up and put some lead (6g split at 3 and 9) on the hoop on two of my racquets and this brings the power up a bit and makes the racquet feel even closer to that wonderful feel of the PS85.

Thank you! I'll try a multi or gut next time I have it strung. However, which multis do you recommend?

@ D Nozzle

It really is a personal preference kind of thing. I personally prefer crisp playing multis like Multifeel, X-1, and XCel Power. You may want to try NRG2, XCel Premium and other strings that play more lively. If you play with relatively flat strokes you can try some of the basic syn gut strings like the Prince Original Syn Gut. They give lots of pop.

On the budget side you could try Pro Supex Maxim Touch for a multi and Gosen OG Sheep Micro for a syn gut. Or even do a hybrid between them!

There are other things to consider, like hybrids, such as what tension you want to use and what gauge you prefer. With the PSLGT I prefer to use lower tension to give back some power and thinner gauges to make the stringbed a little more lively.

I personally started using the new Tecnifibre string that is an evolution of Multifeel called XR1. I use the 17 gauge and string the mains at 50 lbs and the crosses at 48 lbs and use the 4 knot method to keep the tension differential between the mains and crosses. In the PSLGT I get a good bit of power this way and still have pin point precision.

Its worth picking up a few of the 2010 PSLGTs used so that you can do side by side comparisons of strings. The 2010 and 2011 racquets are identical except for the paint job. A few extra racquets also comes in handy when you want to play around with adding a little lead to the hoop. The racquet changes significantly with just a little lead tape and could help you further dial in your perfect racquet.

I keep wanting to shift to other sticks, but I keep coming back to these...

1 Bumble bee
1 PSLGT 2009
2 PSLGT 2011

I can just swing out all day with a poly or hybrid and play great defense with this as well. It's my go to stick for sure....

I've tried lead twice, but I keep ending up preferring the stock weight of this stick.

I like a crisper, firmer poly so I"m trying Solinco Tour Bite, Topspin CF 1.20, WC SilverString 1.20 and WC Mosquito Bite. We'll see where land. Currently, I dig the feel of Tour Bite, but the durability and action of Pro Hurr 1.20.

This is the best stick for me that is currently out there in the market (as a racquetholic, I have to repeat these words....daily).

Thanks Ken! I'm actually waiting on a PS85 soon!

I still have my PSL as my go to stick regardless however! I've flirted with the APD/PDRGT+, but nothing is as good and gives me as much confidence as the PSL. It's still my favorite, but my racketholism gives me fits! LOL!

I'm playing my PSL with 2 Grams of lead @ 6, and a Wilson Pro overgrip. Pretty much stock, but the little bit of lead in the throat just ads a TOUCH of extra crispness, that I've come to enjoy. When I'm really swinging out, I can feel the frame flex, but if I catch it a bit too low in the bed, (Which happens more then most would think), I have JUST enough stiffness to get it back smoothly!

I've never put lead at 6 before - does it help power?

I've been playing with lead at 12, added 3g and turned my serve power up to max and started to get real bite in my kick serve ...problem is I don't like my groundies as much.

Going to reduce be weight to 2g and see how it goes.

At 6, I find it helps stiffen up the bed by a point or two. It helps reduce flex in the throat and add a bit of power. All IMO of course!

I hate messing with lead at 12, it's way too much work to get it to feel right on all my shots.

I really like Wilson NXT Tour 17 Strings at 58 lbs. If they don't have the tour, the 17 is great too.

I've trimmed the weight at 12 down to 2g - hoping to play tonight to see but just had match cancelled so may have to wait till Wednesday.

Fingers crossed, I'll get my groundies back and keep the new found pop and bite on my 1st and 2nd serves...if not 6 O'clock it is!

I see you play with 2g at 6; would you recommend this amount (given I moving from 2-3g at 12?

Thanks in advance

Hey bud!

Hope it works out for you at 12! 6 is very unique if you haven't tried it before. I only use it in super flexy frames. (Redondo/PSL) It's definitely fun to try if you haven't done it before.

I'd definitely recommend at least 2-3 grams at 6. You can really pile it on without noticing it too much. Same goes for adding directly to the throat as well!

Trimming down to 2g seems to have done the trick - I managed to get a game with a regular partner after all. Serve was good and groundies were much better.

Playing again on Wednesday, if all is still well afterwards I think I shall settle on this setup.

Still interested to try 6 o'clock though. Maybe on my 3rd frame when it arrives.

Interestingly, since moving to this frame, I've reverted to a SW forehand grip. Playing a big hitter like this partner today, I struggled at times to 'middle' the ball. When I switched to an eastern grip - pow!

Going to persevere with the SW for a bit longer and hope it was just my timing was a little off.

Is the flex rating 59 (TW) or 65, which one plays softer?
thanks!
