Default Meal After Evening Tennis Classes

I take tennis classes two times a week, 1.5 hour each session (total 3 hours). My classes are at 7 pm, from work I head over to the tennis center. Problem is I do not have time to eat dinner before class. I tend to have two pieces of fruit and some nuts if possible (1 hour before class). I drink lots of water. On these days I tend to skip dinner and usually make a shake afterwards for my meal. Shake consist of non-fat plain yogurt, non-fat milk, fruits (usually, bananas, apples and sometimes strawberries).

I think I am consuming too much sugar. Are there any suggestions out there on what I can eat after my classes (low in fat and sugar)? I do not want to eat a full meal at 9 pm (usually the time I arrive home after classes).

Thanks!

You're overthinking this. 9 PM is hardly too late for a meal, and what you eat after a tennis "class" is not particularly critical.

eat some roasted, no salt/sugar almonds. easy, healthy, and lower carb. it's good fat.

Isn't there a McDonalds anywhere nearby?

Christ, you make it sound like you live in an area of the world where you have to hunt and kill or grow your own food.

I'd just make a salad after class.

You can get a pre-made salad mix or make your own mixture of lettuce and greens. If you have pre-cooked meat, you can add that to your salad along with vegetables like tomato, cucumber, zucchini, etc and some sort of dressing. I like to slice up pre-cooked steak or chicken, or something to add to the salad. I prefer an Italian type dressing. You can throw cheese and cottage cheese or something else to make it more filling.

Lambchops with gravy and mashed potatoes does the job for me.
Strawberry cheesecake for dessert.
Yummy.

Classes don't take enough out of you to warrant a recouping meal. However, you need some protein in there. If you're into healthy eating, just grab a salad with some grilled chicken. If you're still hungry before going to bed, a protein shake will work. It's high carbs you don't want to eat right before you go to bed... unless you're carbing up or something for the next day, but even so. A protein shake is fine, but I don't think one of you shakes is enough to keep you from being hungry over the entire night.

These are some great suggestions. Thank you everyone! Goal is to avoid the high carbs and eat something healthy and filling. I think the salad suggestion is a great idea.

Have your meal in my town, Montclair, NJ. New Jersey Magazine declared this month the the best burger in the state is served at Next Door, in the heart of town. They start with 80/20 chuck but supplement with some ground short rib and ground brisket, top it with melted cheddar and darkly caramelized onions, and serve it all on a Balthazar Bakery bun.

Unless you're obese or something, why worry so much about carbs?

I eat tons of carbs, sugar, and fat every day and I'm still pretty skinny. I also eat before evening tennis to give me energy, and then another full meal after tennis before I go to bed. I hate the feeling of being hungry when I trying to sleep. It definitely helps me to sleep better if I eat something beforehand.

There was a bunch of good suggestions out there:
-Salad with chicken
-Protein shake
-Cottage cheeese or greek yogurt
-2 Hard boiled eggs

To have a better idea on what people suggest you, giving a bit more info about your age, lifestyle, metabolism, waistline, etc.. might help us out helping you out.

All I would mention at this point is that you might want to avoid too much sugar (or fructose) depending at what time you go to bed. That or meal heavy in saturated (or trans) fats would also alter the quality of your sleep.

No mcdonalds, visit in NJ or gravy for you! C'mon boys!!

P.S.: If you go with proteins, make you you get "whey", "iso", or "egg" proteins. "Gainer" type of protein is really not for tennis players .

I'll let you in on a little secret. People only talk about eating well. It's not something they actually do.
