First off, I wanted to thank everyone of you who is a regular poster here. I was a nationally competitive junior almost 20 years ago and am now trying to get back in shape and into the swing of things, in my thirties. This forum has been immensely helpful.
Wondering if you all could recommend a specific string and tension for the above (see subject) racket. I know nowadays most people err on the side of a much tighter tension than I prefer. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

I use 17 gauge Prince something or nother at 50 lbs. on my 3 Dunlop200's, weighing in right at 12.4 oz strung. I tend not to worry too much about my equipement, instead focusing on my rather erratic level of play.

You are correct. The standard way to refer to your strings is to say what is in the mains first and then what is in the crosses second

For what's its worth, I just bought a couple of 4D 200 Tours from TW and had them strung with Wilson Natural Gut at 62 lbs. works great for me...

Johnny, just based on the many posts I've read from 200T users in other threads, I think you find that setups range in tension from 50 to the low 60s.
And the string types range even more. Some use gut, many use multis, though most seem to use full poly or a poly hybrid. I use 18G strings, but I'm probably more of the exception than the rule. A great deal of users prefer 17Gs, and a fair number use 16G. If you really have no idea where to start, I'd suggest a 17G poly/syn-gut hybrid at around 55 lbs and go from there. Good luck... Damp |

JohnnyFive,
What you are looking for is this thread: PV Audio's playtest thread The OP, pvaudio, plays with a 4D 200 Tour and has tested hundreds of string setups. He offers detailed reviews of everything he tries. He also is a very nice guy and answers most questions asked in his thread. Try providing a little more info about your game / playing style / preferences and i'm sure he will have some suggestions for you. |

(While you should definitely read the entire thread...)
summary: WeissCannon Scorpion 16L/Performaxx Whispertouch 17 crosses WeissCannon B5E/Performaxx Whispertouch 17 Performaxx Whispertouch 17/MSV co-focus crosses (in no particular order, all three are evidently excellent and different) He strings the gut 2 lbs higher than the poly, and seems to have gone down to 46-50 range since moving to the 200 tour. whispertouch is only available on the bay and is comparable in price to a Klip or Pacific classic (that said, I've not seen it available through the guys page on the bay in weeks). Discho Iontec is fantastic and 7$/pack(google it) as is the Mamba gut (premium gut and Supra gut). Read each summary carefully as, for several of the earlier of playtests he was still using a 4D-100. That's the gist.

I've been playing with the 4D200T for over two years now, and I find it plays great with full poly at very low tensions (provided you hit with sufficient topspin which for you shouldn't be a problem...). I'm currently enjoying BHBR16 (Tourna Big Hitter Blue Rough, 16g) strung between 36 and 40 lbs. It's very comfortable on the arm and because of the long dwell time, it gives great spin and loads of control, even for volleys and touch shots. No trampolening with full poly at such low tensions (<40 lbs).

Kaiser, how do you hit (moderate spin? alot of spin?) and how long do you notice you get in terms of playtime, out of the string? Do you find that prior to breaking it becomes unplayable because of tension loss? |

I string mine 2 ways:
17G gutM@62# /17Gpoly cross at 56# or Poly BHB 17G M @56#/17Gmulit cross at 56#. 1st set up is a little more comfortable, bigger serves. 2nd set up =better spin and control, lose a bit on serves but not much. I practice with set up #1! and use #2 for match play.

Guess I hit moderate to high spin (still working on it...), I found that going to the sub-40s certainly made it easier for me to hit bigger spin. I feel that after 8-10 hours of play it gets harder to generate the necessary amount of spin to keep the ball in.
