I do find it amusing that apparently the only college sports that generate any revenue are local sports like American Football and Basketball that have no real relevance outside the US, especially football...

Still, I guess there are professional pathways within the local environment, so it makes a kind of sense. Shame for real international professional sports such as tennis or (real) football..

As a feminist, there was a time and place for Title IX and affirmative action, but that time has passed. Let it go. When there are 1/3 more male juniors playing tennis then females, they should have 1/3 more opportunities in college to play tennis than females not 70% less (or whatever percentage it equates to).

That's right, don't these school admin and professor know that the reason why we have university is so that we can have college sports. The nerve of them to suggest that the goal of higher education is education. It is a shame that these university fat cats are living in the past. America is a superpower, we don't need to do things ourselves, we can hire foreigners to do it for us, with the exception of athletics of course.

Why do we have professors anyways they distract us from sports.

We need more than 85 for football. We really need about 500 for football but the liberals prevented us from fully funding football. On top of that they expect athletes to attend non sports related classes. This is just another example of liberal fascism, forcing their agenda down our throats.

We need our freedom, freedom to play tennis without taking unnecessary classes, freedom from having to pay for it, freedom from having enough aptitude for it. Bring back the American way. America needs to be strong again.

What? why are girls and women playing tennis or going to school? These liberal, feminist agenda are ruining America. We were great when women stayed at home, bring back the 1930's when America was a power on the rise. Feminism, civil rights, desegregation, inter-racial marriages, gays in the military, helmets in hockey, unleaded gasoline, fat free bran muffin, automatic transmission, diet Coke, these things made us weak.

No, as a 0.1 percenter, we have ordered Congress and Obama to let us make the ultimate sacrifice. We the 0.1 percenter will agree to pay one dollar for every ten million dollars we make. In return for making this ultimate of ultimate sacrifice, we want to be given an honorary ranking of lieutant general with two Congressional medals of honor.

As for the war, let us set up the companies first to benefit from the war and then we'll give the go ahead to Obama and Congress.

This guy argues that, love it or hate it, American Universities are the envy of the world bc of the bucks brought in by college football and basketball.

I just wanted to say thanks for this thread. Very interesting stuff. Thank you all. This is one of the reasons to cruise by these boards regularly.
For me, it lead to an instapundit article, then an article on National Assoc of Scholars.
EDIT:
BTW, dennis10is is hilarious.

I wonder what will become of all the players. They will all transfer I guess. And what about Spencer? He has turned the program around quickly, surely there will be a school looking at him, maybe Arizona who has gone down very fast.

There are many valid flaws with Title IX. I support the idea behind it, but in reality Title IX is a broken system.

The spirit of the decree was to add women's sports, not cut men's sports. Hundreds of men's wrestling, gymnastics, and tennis teams have been cut from D-I athletics programs around the country in order to allow universities to meet Title IX proportionality requirements, according to 60 Minutes.

The fact of the matter is, athletic participation is far higher for males than females. There are just more men who want to play college sports than women.

In America, it's not about what makes sense. It's about equality. Everything must be politically correct, balanced and equal or it is not right. Logic is not in the equation.
