well, about a month ago they got into it with their neighbor on the other side. that guy ended up tearing out all the landscaping he put in between their properties and installed a tall iron fence.

my neighbors still cant understand that letting their dog crap in everyones yard isnt acceptable. they think everyone else is crazy.

bt you have to know these people. they are "entitled" with a capital E. i just keep it friendly but have no more contact than is necessary. they said that when they leave "this crappy neighborhood" they hope a meth dealer moves in.

anyway, the wife is happy she didnt escalate things
You could always just crap on their lawn, then they might get the idea. I would also consider leaving rat poison enveloped in some raw meat on the periphery of your property. If they can't be bothered to look after their own animal, what happens to it is on them.

Incorrect.

Arabic words can be romanized in various ways. Both burka and burqa are acceptable.

Pulled from Reddit about dogs pooping on lawns:

"Have an old codger who walks his dog by my house like clock work, every night at 5:30.And my side driveway has become his dogs crapping ground.I had told the guy to either pick it up or I would gather it and leave it on his front step.
That worked for awhile, but then he just started walking the dog an hour earlier.
So yesterday after we cooked breakfast,I decided to try something I heard of....
I took the big pan of bacon grease and poured it on all of the crap piles.....
I went and waited, and the dog was like hungry-hungry hippo's......he couldnt get enough!!!The old guy didnt notice it at first, then the dog was pulling on his leash to get it all.
Just as the guy get to where he can see me I walk out and tell him good job on teaching that dog how to clean up its own ****!!!!
BACON-1
old codger-0"

Please tell me where....

I have actually scouted around in some places. Most of the decent places in the North which might be cool (in the hills) are taken by retired army people or businessmen. Long ago i went to the Nilgiris and the rates back then were far more than i could afford even today.

I am looking for a place I can move with my very old parents who want a few years of peaceful life from this awfully toxic, aggressive life in Delhi. Someone suggested Auroville but it would be very hot, and there's no telling what obligations there are. I am considering Himachal (although there are regulations about outsiders).

Real estate developers are buying up everything in the North, and waiting till the rates go up so they can get a premium for it.

It can't be totally remote as one would need some basic medical facilities for my old parents.

I have been to Auroville. I thought the sea breeze in Pondy cooled the weather down compared to Chennai, and the place is full of gardens. I don't know about other places, but you can get a flat in Chennai from around 75 lacs, and 50 lacs or less if you are somewhat away from the city.

Are you looking for an independent plot and house rather than a flat?

So I told him to keep it down. He objected strongly to that, and I defused the situation by walking away.

Would you have said something? I figured at the very least he'd think twice about it next time. But don't know if I was overreacting?
Haven't read the whole thread, but in case no one has pointed out, you can't and shouldn't dictate etiquette to strangers. Of course there are times when you need to make your displeasure known--say, in a library where silence is expected, or in a shared hotel room with your roommate--but in this case you had the option of simply walking away, which you did in the end.

So to answer your question, no, you shouldn't have said anything. It was actually rude and presumptuous on your part to tell him how to speak. The best you could have done was to complain to the store manager and let him handle the situation, and if you see that he doesn't care much about loud, swearing customers you can take your business elsewhere.

No point in moving from one city to another, so Pondi and Chennai are out. Independent would be preferable, we already are in a flat (after having spent all our life in an independent house) and it sucks ... all the fighting with the other occupants. Very aggressive business crowd here. My entire street has fights going on over parking since everyone has 3-4 large cars and nowhere to park them.

Traffic is so rash, the parents can't step out. So a green, quiet area is preferable. Preferably cool. I suppose the Nilgiri area is prohibitively expensive.

Thank you, I think that's fair. It was after a tough day at work and I was just trying to buy some fruit, and this guy just was so jarring, it bothered me. I don't normally look for confrontation, but I spoke out at the moment without thinking too much about it. He wasn't a thug or anything so I knew it would blow over, and like I said I walked away.

Sometimes I have a hard time keeping things to myslef, I'm kind of a heart on your sleeve kind of guy. I actually admire those guys -well, most guys- who just keep everything in at all times. I never have, sometimes to my advantage, sometimes to my detriment.

And I can tell you many introverts feel the opposite way.

OK, my thoughts in this area are well known. This week at the DMV, of all places, we are there to get my daughter's learner's permit testing done. You know the drill, long line to get triaged into one of many secondary long lines to get your issue dealt with. A single person dealing with a 30 deep, serpentine line just to one side of the entrance.

We slowly make our way towards the head of the line, a second helper comes and speeds up the line dramatically, only to leave when we are at the head of the line. The original worker turns to have a parting conversation with her coworker who is leaving... meanwhile come 20-something dude with the fly threads walks in the door and right to the empty counter in front of the worker. I figure "give the guy the benefit of the doubt, maybe he just wants to ask where to start the process, since it is not obvious due to poor signage". Nope, when she turns back around and says "may I help you?" He starts in with his actual question, acting oblivious to the 30 odd people just to his left.

"Hey dude, get to the back of the line!!" comes right off my lips as easy as anything, followed immediately by about 5-10 other linestanders piping in.

The nerve of some people.
