Qualifying rounds in Newport on grass. Surface should be suited to him.

He said in interviews his plan was to rest until Newport and gear up from there for the US Open where he will have the WC he earned winning NCAAs.

he is now, but he was still playing NCAA stuff this late winter and spring right? Seems like he was focused on getting that 4th in a row for USC.

I don't know Steve, but looking at his ITF profile I would assume that he took a month of to recover and train after NCAAs and then got a WC into Newport. I'd be willing to bet he focuses on the 2nd half of the tour schedule pretty hard and gets his ranking up to a career high by year end.

He finished the NCAAs in late May with a minor stress fracture and an issue with a stomach muscle. He needed a few weeks off to rest and get healthy.

Yea, I'd like to see that match. Doubt it will be televised, but would like to be surprised and catch that one.
