He does have space for 1 more 250 event, so that'll be a more realistic option for him. Nevertheless, he'll look like an absolute ****** if he enters a clay event before the Olympics on grass just to deny Federer his record (only to potentially lose the ranking a few weeks later anyway).

Is this even a possibility in this limited timeframe?
Why would he do that? It would honestly be a jerk move to enter a challenger, both to the other players and to Federer because it would be for the sole purpose of denying him a record. Secondly, Fed could also play a challenger if Djokovic decided to, so he could still stay ahead. Finally, why would either of them want to tire themselves out more before the Olympics?

To answer the question: yes he can, but he most certainly won't.

Those 0 pointers for withdrawing from Beijing, Washington, and Shanghai really stand out now.

Also, the trump card - top 10 players cannot play Challenger events.

SOG would never play a cheap trick like that against his father.

I might guess Novak would get a harder workout through his regular training regime than beating a bunch of guys ranked ~150 to ~300.

It would be the biggest anti-climax in the history of tennis tournaments.

He'd do it only to lose to Rosol in the second round.

What can Djokovic possibly have better to do than this?

The whole point of being a pro tennis player is to deny other pro tennis players of success.

Djokovic should be doing all in his power to deny Federer statistics that he can fall back on to argue that he is the greatest of all time.
