Ram/Lipsky came close but couldn't quite pull off the upset. They go down to the Bryan Bros in 5 sets.

At the Futures tournament in Pittsburgh, Ruben Gonzales advanced to the singles quarterfinals and the doubles semifinals. Bruno Abdelnour lost in the 1st round.

ITA Summer Circuit has started. Julian Childers was the 3rd seed at a Central Region tournament but lost in the third round. Should be interesting to see if any Illini can make it to the National Tournament this year. Stephen Hoh won the national title last year.

Ruben Gonzales lost in the singles quarterfinals but has advanced to the doubles final at the Pittsburgh Futures. Has a great chance to add another Futures tile with the top seeded pair going out in the semis.

Satsuma, I have a question. I noticed in Winnetka that there was a Fares from Libya in the draw. That same person is on the acceptance list for Godfrey futures.
This has to be the same guy as Gosea from GB on Illinois team, right? Is that some sort of English translation to his name? Is he from Libya, by way of Great Britain.

I thought this post was a joke until I looked into it:

Fares Ghasya, Libya, born March 3, 1994
Farris Gosea, Wales, born March 3, 1994

That would be quite a coincidence.

Gosea won a USTA event last month and that gave him a wildcard into the Godfrey tournament so it is probably him. I've seen the Farris name with "Lybian player" in articles before but I don't think I have seen that spelling of his name before. They should just spell it Ferris. He would be much more popular and famous.

No. 1 and 2 by committee probably. I'm guessing #1 Abdelnour, #2 Kopinski, #3 Hiltzik, #4 Hoh, #5 Guignon, #6 Gosea/Page. The wildcard is Hiltzik. He may turn out to be a #1 from the get-go. Another unknown is Bazarnik. His summer results haven't been too great so we'll have to wait and see how Dancer can help him out. There is Jesse and Childers as well. Childers mentioned he might redshirt but then Dancer said there would be no redshirts so he might be a factor as well.

It will be interesting to see if Bazarnik will be higher in the lineup than Kopinski because I believe that Bazarnik beat Kopinski quite a bit during high school if I am not mistaken

Dancer was interviewed on the Tay and J Show today. Interesting to hear his opinion about next season.

Rajeev Ram is playing in the Hall of Fame tournament in Newport and has advanced to the quarterfinals. He was teamed with Michael Russell in the doubles but they lost in the 1st Rd.

Ruben Gonzales is playing in the Futures tournament in Rochester. He is seeded No. 1 in doubles with Michael Venus. They won their 1st Rd.

Pretty darn good showing. This super fast grass suits Ram's game perfectly. now he plays hewitt in the semis. This will be very interesting match. Hewitt usually matches up really well against serve and volleyers.

Chief Illiniwek was never really a mascot but more of a symbol of the school. And yes, the chief is no more. We have no mascot at Illinois.
