I was thinking the same thing.

I really should have recorded the entire second season of Walking Dead, I only got the first six episodes of season 2 on Saturday.

in some countries you can get lower health premiums if you exclude certain services.

The fact is that its a case of market failure in health and communications that the consumer is slugged with paying huge prices for access to services they don't need.

Pay tv and helath insurance are hugely profitable industries for a reason: they're oligopolistic price gougers.

With insurance as with cable, allowing people to buy a few channels they watch would be economically untenable, and I doubt cable companies would then have the resources to pay the (rapidly increasing) costs of content for all the channels they carry. Perhaps some degree of regulation is feasible -- the companies are not all screaming that they can't make a living -- but there is far more competition in cable/satellite now than 30 years ago when most people had only one option. You can buy basic cable packages or additional premium packages now. Some channels are sold individually. But a completely buffet approach wouldn't work economically -- the built-in costs to pay all the content providers are too high.

Viacom needs to stop playing games, they have MORE than enough money.

^^ Stewart and Colbert continue on TV, but the online offerings are being pulled.
