Well the officiating/line calling at Wimbledon was pretty awful, so it wouldn't surprise me if a WTA event were bad as well.

I went to a qualifier match at BOTW this year. Unbelievably bad line calling. Those line judges are a complete joke. The spectators could've cared less as they had no idea who was playing and the quality of play was just as poor as the line calling.

BOTW was a shell of it's former self this year.

I'm volunteering at the BoW and there are many miscalls, an odd one that stands out was when one called game when deuce, but that was easily corrected with both players pointing that out.

During the Wickmayer and Coco match, Yanina said something in her native language and the umpire warned her for verbal. Yanina explained that she was saying 'no'. I don't know what she said, but the umpire was reactionary.

The players seem to have less faith in the umpires. As a spectator, I can't take certain umpires seriously with the lack of consistency and credibility.

I watched one match also and the line calling was embarrassing. It seems like this tournament is on the verge of becoming a second or third rate event, with a depleted draw and incompetent judges.

How's the attendance? I imagine it must've dropped off sharply due to the lack of top players.

Well, the Olympics have really hurt it this year. I suspect that it'll bounce back next year.
