If Federer is a natural free flowing river which transforms into waterfalls, creeks and oceans, Dimitrov would be a network of British canals. Federer is natural. Dimitrov is somehow rather artificial.

I reserve judgement on Dmitrov, he does seem to have copied Federer's game. It's better to take influences and find your own game, like so many young players who became great have done in the past. Dmitrov hasn't found his identity yet.

I think dimitrov despite looking like federer, plays more like sampras. Raonic is more goran.

Exactly right.

Dimitrov is annoying to watch as he obviously copied every shot of Federer's but the only problem is the kid has nowhere near the talent level Federer does imo. Raonic is not as talented as Sampras but at least he does not look like an obnoxious Sampras copycat/clone when he plays.

LOL!!!!! Two players that have potential vs 2 proven HUGE *** GS winners! No comparison until the newbies win anything a few times. Until that happens, there's zero comparison.

I just saw Dimitrov playing at Swedish Open. It seems he plays better on clay, in terms of movement and timing. Also, on clay he plays with a lot of wrist action, to impart the top spin on the ball. He looks more flowing and flexible on clay, I guess because the court speed is quite slow therefore he has more time to get to the ball. He is playing more like Federer, crafty and smart.

But, he lacks of some power / plow through on his shots. He needs this against top players. Perhaps, from what I saw, his racquet string tension is a bit high, therefore his groundstrokes are lacking of some pop.

You really don't know much about Federer's youth

He played some very good tennis on the fast grass of Queens so there is hope yet that he is on the right track now (especially after his second ATP semi)

fed was a bit useless upstairs. had nice strokes but ppl wondered if he'd ever put it together. looked a million dollars one week, out in the first round the next

not sure how old this forum is but if u did a search for fed threads circa 2001-2003 u will see a lotta frustrated fans. the guys who came up through the jrs with him like hewitt and safin were puttin it together n winning big, he was still a headcase

Raonic is robotic and mechanical, nothing like the fluid Sampras.

I didn't talk about Federer's youth.

I know in his youth/teenage years he liked to throw tantrum every now and then in practices and in matches. He cried and he lost so often. He often made beautiful and unusual strokes but that's why he lost because he wanted to show off his talent, and played a very low percentage game.

I've read a lot about him.

When he was young, during a practice, he threw his racquet and the racquet cut through a brand new curtain. He was being punished for that.

Petros is shorter than Fed. He was extremely athletic, fast and had good footwork. Nothing like Raonic. Raonic has terrible footwork and no “plan B”. If he’s having an off day and missing his shots or his 1st serve % isn’t clicking he’s finished. Even the serve is different. Petros could hit aces on you all day at 120mph because his placement was exceptional and his serve was unreadable. Not because he was 6’6” and served 150mph. Dimitrov, ok even though he doesn’t have 1/100th the fuildity of Fed, at least he’s a total ******* and copied his strokes from Fed. Nothing that Raonic does looks like Petros. Rampras is way more similar to Petros in terms of how his shots look. A huge reason Petros was successful on grass was his ability to move on grass. Very sure footed and fast moving forward. And his return of serve. Something that are both extremely lacking in Raonic's game

Raonic is NOT a serve volleyer. I don't think he's comparable to pete other than a good serve. I think Pete is much better at hitting running shots or getting out of jams with his defense than Raonic.

Dimitrov is a wanna be fed. He also treats people really bad, when fed was young he would throw his racquet around. Dimitrov on the other hand, doesn't throw his racquet around but yells at people and demeans them. I think he is a very spoiled person. He will never be fed because he tries to much to be a carbon copy of someone than finding anything remotely individualistic about himself.

raonic is garbage, I see him practice regularly when he is in Canada, he has already peaked, just a serve
