Hi
I've been playing squash (due to poor weather we have) and was curious whether other tennis fans/players here play this sport? Also, if you do - got any tips? Cheers. |

For many years I did until my back couldn't take it anymore.
One training activity they often do is two people doing boast and drive.. which is what it sounds like - alternating boasting and driving. My way to do it was to do it by myself. If you can manage that for a couple of minutes you're doing well. I used to annihilate myself doing that routine. Squash is a sport where any obvious fitness disparity basically ends any chance of the less fit person winning so ramping up your court/pattern-related fitness aspect will help out a lot.

Thanks for the tips.
Yeah I'd agree with the fitness levels - that's pretty paramount in a game I found. I'm not particularly unfit but the two guys I play against weekly are fitter than me. Even roger federer used to play it and he has had a few shots in tennis that were squash ones. |

I used to play with some much older men, in their 50s, maybe even 60 and they could still win by doing certain shots that stopped the ball dead. That's what I like about squaah because although it can e very physical, good tactics can rule.

I was always rather an athletic and fit guy, but when I played squash for the first time two weeks ago I got a mad whole-body muscle ache.
It was really hard but I still had a lot of fun. Definately going to play it again.

It's new activities that the body has to get used to I found at least. Might be different for others but it was really shocking to me to realise that after just a couple games it was like I hadn't played the night before, quite a dramatic difference. I think practising lunges at home is a good thing but I don't have that much effort! |

Much harder than it looks. I played a few times but (1) was a danger to myself and others given challenge of shortening my tennis swing to fit that tiny room (!); and (2) found that trying to shorten the swing and use more wrist was screwing up my tennis game.

Yeah, I found making the transition back to tennis was difficult but I started doing one handed back hands in tennis as opposed to double handed and I quite enjoyed that! Felt like federer only without the great skills he has!
Maybe you could play left handed with squaah and right handed tennis, maybe you'd have less chance of them interfering with one another? |
