It'll be a heckuva match between these two. They are also doubles partners in ATL. Always adds another dynamic.

Yes, they played together, but Pretty sure they lost in first round of dubs late Monday night.

Johnson is the better player at the moment. I expect him to win in 2

That is correct, lost in a tb 3rd. Wonder which one gained the most knowledge of the other by sharing the court and listening to strategy.

it's gonna fun seeing who will come out ahead from this match up.. both just had an impressive first round win .. it was reported that Sock clocked a 140mph serve in his 1st round match... so that's a bit 'new and improved'... we'll see .. both should get a wild card for the USO also..

Maybe you are talking about dubs WC? But in singles, SJ earned his by winning NCAAs. With something like 15 ATP WCs since he went pro, I am sure Sock will be given one. He'd get one with or without injury. He's the new DY of WCs as I read elsewhere. If ya get enough of them you are bound to win a good match at some point I suppose.

I sat in the front row for that match vs Bogomolov. It was one ugly ugly match. Sock didn't play great and Boggo was horrendous. The Johnson/Young match was much better quality.

what did you see? define ''ugly ugly" .. they both couldn't have been moon-balling like WTA does or ???

Sock loves to 'dink' I guess he feels that's the only way he can beat these guys .. but 140mph serve and dink?

something i wrote for another website

Quote:
What an ugly display of tennis this was. Sock has no plan and was just hitting ugly looking shots but Bogomolov could not do anything in the first set. I can see why Bogomolov is not doing well this year, he has lost all of his grit that made him tough last year. Sock was struggling with his timing but Bogomolov did nothing about it, never made the youngster pay. Sock was serving well, the cannon read 141 at one point(I highly doubt it, looked more like 130). I sat near Bogomolov's coach/friend idk who he was, he was Bogo's age and had blonde air, Russian. He said "we're just trying to bounce back this year". It's tough for these guys during osing seasons, the coach looked dejected after the match and each time Bogo failed to deliver on a chance. The match had an hour 40 minute rain delay Sock leading 4-2 n the 3rd. Sock has an annoying habit of going touse the Bathroom right after the players come out onto the court, he did it even after the rain delay. Bogo came out of the delay was sharper and was moving his feet well. He had 4 break points, each time on a Sock 2nd serve. Twice he tamley hit the return long, prompting racket throws.
One of the break points Sock hit a big kick serve wide that was called out, Sock challenged, the machine said in. Bogo said the mark was out and had the linesman agree the mark was out. The umpire even said he thought it was out, but that they must go by the machine. That would have given Bogo the break. After losing the game he slammed his racket into his orange gatorade and sent it flying, the gatorade getting all over the ball girl, the umpire did nothing(he let 4 racket throws and that gatorade slam go without even a warning). Bogo still had fight in him though and broke Sock to make it 4-5. At this point his coach was pumped up(the crowd was for Sock). But he gave it right back on the next game ad Sock won in an ugly fashion. I was not impressed with Sock, really just an ugly match all the way through.

At 8:15 a man and his 3 kids came and took their seats in the first row, deciding that 8:15 was a good time to show up for the 6 tickets he spent money on(he didn't even realize there had been rain delay). So for the next match I had too sit in the 2nd row.

FWIW, Sock d Johnson 7-6, 7-6. No service breaks. Both tb's were 7-5.

Didn't see the action, but appears stat difference came down to Socks 2nd serve and 2nd serve return points which were excellent numbers.

Sock wins, no reaction. If Sock had lost, the doubters would have come out to say he's on the DY wildcard track and should have gone to college.

Well done Jack!

Sounds like they both played pretty tight games. I wish I could have seen that match.

Not necessarily, because this was already a 2nd round match.

If anyone didn't get to see the match.
Interesting match between two up and coming Americans trying to make it big.

I thought it was a tight two sets. Johnson was up in both tiebreaks and just
didn't take advantage of his opportunities. Was up 5-2 in the second set tie
break but somehow lost 5 straight point.

Also Johnson never seemed to get Sock's serve down and that cost him in the
tiebreaks when every point mattered.

Both played well though but I think the experience of having played on the tour
longer showed since Sock was able to handle the pressure better and put more
ball into play, especially on serve.

Just my opinion.
