Are you playing USTA? A good portion of people who would commit to practice on a regular basis are probably into USTA, so you might increase your chances there.

Outside of that, I've done stuff like printing out a flyer and hanging them at tennis clubs or at Rockcreek or Haines point. Or you may want to look into some tennis ladders in DC.
i've used craigslist and had a little bit of success

I also might put up a flyer at GW tennis center and at the hardy rec courts and see if anyone bites.

i wish my friends were into tennis but they're all golf people! it sucks.

and zap you are probably so much better than me that you would find it frustrating.. i'm coming off a period of very little play in between a torn calf and lack of practice opportunities.

i don't know for sure, i assume somewhere around 3.5/4.0

i started playing when i was 5 and played singles for my high school.. so i was probably 5.0 or whatever it is back then.

but then through college i didn't play at all and started again last summer after 5 years off and it has been a frustrating process.. every time i would get some consistent practice time i'd be without anyone to hit with for 2-3 weeks and lose it all. the only thing i can practice on a regular basis is service.

I'll play tennis with anybody. Just know that if you don't let me have unlimited serves, I will arm bar you.

What happened to Thursday mini-meets? Tennis, then margaritas and beer and the chic from Heroes.

Seriously, best way to to get into some leagues or tennis teams. Really- face to face networking on the courts beats finding partners by internet IMHO.

Segue to real tennis discussion (since this is a tennis board, ya know)...have any of ya'll ever done/played "3-serve" tennis...especially in a social situation and in lieu of "first in"? You basically get 3 serves to start each point. It encourages "going for it" on your 1st (and 2nd) but still moves the game along. I know you guys aren't normally much for 1st-in, but us ladies play it often. This is a nicer alternative and when I'm in for a serious hit-session with a trusted partner, we have often played that way for an entire set.

AQ

Never played 3-serve and only do first-in on the first few serves when starting a set without a warm-up. Never really thought about it, don't know why.

I have played sets where you had to hit first serves on both first and second serves to help reduce the fear of the DF when going for it and to try to train being more accurate when going for a little more on the second.

Most hitting sessions we'd play 21 without serves then maybe finish up with a few tie breaks with serves. Seems like you get more strokes in that way.
