Nadal fans are mostly women before 35 and young kids, both attracted to the Superman-type physique and heroics. The former would want to sleep with Nadal, the latter would want to be like Nadal.
Federer fans are usually older, better educated and more realistic about life - women after 35 (with maturity they gradually shift their sexual preferences from raw muscle to intangibles like brains and social success) and most men who can relate to Federer's "normal" body shape and manners. Djokovic fans are very diverse. You can see typical bandwagoners, nationalistic people from the Eastern Europe, Fedal haters (as a form of anti-social protest "occupy ATP"), and so on. It is hard to generalize them just like it is hard to define what Djokovic is all about. Murray fans are Brits and weirdos. They are usually the quietest, politest and most educated people worth having serious conversations with. Last edited by Netspirit : 08-01-2012 at 03:44 PM. |

People who put support of a player (or an era) before passion for the sport aren't really tennis fans. Not to mention that they generally don't know squat about tennis. Unfortunately, they are the overwhelming majority on this forum.

If anything, this post exposed your fanaticism and zealousness. You apparently cannot stomach a divergent viewpoint. |

Thanks for the laugh. Mustard is worth 100 banned zillas/aphex's/djokovicfortheloss because he doesn't clutter up the forums with worthless garbage posts and he is capable of having a civilized discussion even when he doesn't share the same viewpoint as the fedophiles. |

And I laugh at you saying I'm on a propaganda campaign as if you are somehow neutral and objective. LOL. As for the GOAT argument, a load of different players have a case for being GOAT, and a lot of people these days seem to think that Federer is the only candidate. In reality, I don't really see how any player can definitively win the GOAT argument, because different eras are different (some drastically different from others). There is nothing wrong with putting Laver's case out there, when a lot of Federer fans are putting forward Federer's case. And yes, I'm a Nadal fan, and can sometimes be biased against Federer. I don't deny it. However, I do respect Federer's achievements and how he has played a big part to push tennis to such heights in this era. |

There is more BS in this thread than in Gimelstob's commentary.

One thing I have realized is that, due to the H2H and the fact that Nadal is always favored when they play each other, Nadal fans always hope for Fed to make it to the Final, whereas Fed fans seem to always pray that Nadal loses so that he doesn't make it to the Final. This makes Fed fans look a little desperate sometimes, but I can't blame them. I think Nadal fans were probably doing some of the same last year with Djokovic, although I think the greatest portion of Nadal fans actually wanted Nadal to play Djokovic for payback, because they somehow still believed in Rafa. This points to the fact that Fed fans seem to have lost hope in balancing the H2H against Nadal.

Laver needs more people making his GOAT case, imo. There's no denying that Fed is the most accomplished player of all time, but people will argue about the GOAT forever and Laver needs more love than he gets, imo. I feel like 97% of all fans of players are pretty normal, likely attracted to a player or their game due to allegiance to a nation, a style, a look, a memory etc. Unfortunately for the 97%, the 3% of ridiculous freak shows are drawn to anonymous internet message boards, where anything goes. It's impossible (and downright wrong, imo) to draw parallels or generalizations of an entire fan base from what is posted on these boards, MTF, or anywhere else. You've got the most passionate of all fans, some bordering on mentally unstable (these people exist in every fan base), and some who post 20 times a day. Normal people aren't like that. Hell, I feel like I'm here all the time and I've averaged 1.94 posts per day in my 6 years here. I can't imagine posting 10+ times a day on average. |

Clearly Fed's fans aren't primarily motivated by success but by his game first and foremost. That's why they believed he was the goat way back before he collected the trophies he has. In fact one of the criticisms of Fed fans way back then was that they were wrong to consider him goat because (at the time) Sampras was still the more successful guy in the stats. But clearly Fed fans weren't interested in the stats in and of themselves but only as a confirmation of what he demonstrates on the tennis courts. Only Nadaltard-type bandwagoners are interested in just simply who had the biggest amount of success (since that is the reason many of them became Nadaltard in the first place: they desperately wanted someone, anyone, to halt Fed in whatever way possible On the other hand, Fed's (now leading) stats are but only a mantle to the real jewels: his game. That was, is, and will always be the first and primary love. If you don't like Fed's game - you can't even be a legitimate fan (which is something that happens all the time with Nadal: lots of people are a fan of him while still not being a fan of his tennis) .
