Default Better grass-court player: Djokovic or Murray?

1 Wimbledon > 0.

Djokovic is far better.

What do you think?

General performance Murray.Djoko form level was so high last year thats why he won.Normal Djoko level means he is the worst among the the top 4 on grass.

Today has only given more evidence to what I already thought. Murray is the better grass court player, but just like Nadal is the perfect player to beat Federer, Djokovic is the perfect player to beat Nadal. I think Murray will win Wimbledon before he is finished too.

I've always maintained that Murray knows how to play on grass and that his game is better suited for the surface. For Djokovic to really succeed, he needs a surface where he can quickly recover from his sliding, and grass doesn't allow that. His high level of confidence against Nadal and the field allowed him to win Wimbledon last year, but he would lose more often than win against Murray and even Federer on grass usually.

The Murray game suits the grass very well. Novaks ain't bad but damn, his topspin forehand sucks a** on this surface, especially when he's more passive/defensive than usual. I miss the days when Novak actually attacked his forehand with little topspin and flattered it out most of the time.

At the risk of agreeing with Tank_Job; one of them is a Wimbledon champion and the other is merely a finalist. Them's the facts.

I think Murray is a bit more comfortable on grass, not a huge difference but a bit (Djokovic was Wimby semi finalist in 2007,queens finalist in 2008 so he was always pretty good on grass) but Djokovic has been a better all round player, and a better match player. Just like Nadal is a better player than certain people who actually have better HC games, and so he will succeed more than them on HC despite not having the game for it as much as them.

Luck is part of any sport. Even for the best players. Would Federer have won RG 09 against Nadal? Probably not. Would Sampras have won 02 US Open against Hewitt? Probably not.

Do you think Agassi was a better grass court player than Goran in 2000, because he won Wimbledon? Do you think Gaudio is a better clay court player than Coria?

I'm impressed with Andy today, but overall, I think it is Djokovic. He did win Wimbledon and reached more semis there. overall, it is irrelevant. I don't think the Olympic tournament is that important anyway if we look at the big picture.

I would like to see them play the best of 5 next year at 'real' Wimbledon.

still, wish Andy to win gold. good luck to him. Go Muzza.

Actually he has reached the same number of Wimbledon semis as Murray, ie.4 (2007,2010-2012 for Djokovic v 2009-2012 for Murray) and reached one final like Murray except, of course, he won his final. Other than Wimbledon, Djokovic has no other grass court titles and has reached only one other grass court final (2008 Queens). Murray has 2 grass court titles (2009 & 2011 Queens). But, of course, there is no denying that Wimbledon is the biggie.

He also reached the final of Halle in 2009 and lost to Tommy Haas in 2 sets

Thanks for that. So Djokovic has played 3 grass court finals and won 1. Murray has also played 3 grass court finals (and is about to play a 4th) and won 2 albeit Djokovic's 1 win was at Wimbledon!

If they met 10 times on grass, I'd pick Murray to win 7 times. He is just much more naturally suited to the surface than Djokovic. Djok was a bit fortunate IMO to win his Wimbledon in that his (at the time) pigeon Nadal was in the final, if it had been Fed or Murray he most likely would not have won. Tsonga did him a big favor by taking out Federer last year.

it's close for sure, but that win at W is huge, we all know it. Mainad, thanks for correcting me, I was under impression that Novak had one more semi at W.
