I don't think BobbyOne is mad but I think he feels Rosewall deserves his just due and respect.

Hello friends and fans,

Maybe a few points can explain a bit my views.

TMF, you are right: I was reading on TT for five years.

I defended TMF a bit even though I don't agree with him about Federer and about official records. I just dislike insulting words.

I find TMF is brave to write here on Former Pro Player Talk because he must be aware that he gets much contradiction... He could write better on General P.P.D.

I frankly revealed here that I'm a great Rosewall fan. But I always try to avoid an exaggerated admiration for Muscles (or for other greats). I just write against that curious underestimation of Rosewall (also on T.T.). I am really convinced that the Little Master deserves a place among the all-time top four- together with Laver, Gonzalez and Tilden. All of them keep fantastic records.

I have listed up some Rosewall records on the Gonzales vs. Rosewall thread recently...

I'm satisfied that Federer lost today clearly because otherwise even more experts and fans would claim he is the GOAT...

I look forward to many fruitful discussions!

You've been lurking for 5 years, you "don't like insulting words," but, you decided to engage in the discourse on TT knowing that about half of the posts here contain insulting words, of one form or another. And, to top it off, you declaim admiration for TMF's bravery. TMF! One not known to be too shy or polite to lob a few insult grenades of his own whenever he sees fit.

Sorry! It doesn't pass the laugh test, Bobby.

Limpinhitter,

I have not lurked, I have read...

If about the half of the posts here would contain insulting words, I would not post here...

You should learn to be civilize like all the old timers in here. Although many are biased, but they can still managed to hold their composure during the heated discussion. You are the only one who gets aggressive and attack other fans on this Laver Forum and even on General Player Talk forum. I can easily insult you back, but I'm not going to reach your level. Have courtesy/respect for the other members and not ruin this place. However if you still want to ignore the Board Policies that's your choice, no one can stop you(except the mod).

I normally say this to the very young fans like the Nadal fans, but this is the first time I have to say an old-timer to act mature and have some control. Feels weird.

You really cannot criticize someone for disliking insults.

Just to be clear here, some don't particularly care to be called old timers. I know you are not trying to be derogatory but it's like calling you a youngster, not necessarily bad but the connotations aren't positive.

That's not what I did. I criticized Bobby for selective dislike of insults.

You're not imputing sufficient insidious intent to TMF's posts.

No I'm not but the term old timer can be considered very condescending just like the term historian has become on Tennis Warehouse. It often implies a person who does not have his or her mental faculties or perhaps is rigid in their opinions.

I would dare say that some of these so called old timers can move pretty well, are pretty intelligent and are excellent tennis players.

hoodjem,

Thanks for your words about insults.

Mustard is of course right: Let's come back to tennis.

But I believe it's also important to clarify once and foreverer that we all (including of course myself) shoudl try to avoid any insulting words.

In this sense: Let's have interesting discussions about tennis!

We have many groups of fans coming from young fans who only started watching Nadal to fans who have watched since the 50s/60s, maybe even earlier. So how would you call someone other than old-timer? Senior, elder? Someday I'll be in this group and I don't mind if someone call me an old-timer.

It was Limpin that started the fire, no one else. I don't need him to apologize to me but at least apologize to the other members. This is a message board, it doesn't require to take anger management to be able to fit in. LOL

Like I wrote, it's forgotten but since you asked, long time observer, veteran observer isn't a bad term. Don't worry about it and you can call me old timer.

I also prefer "old-timer." I think it is better than "historian" (which I do not claim to be).
