Lightbulb Olympics 2012: distance races thread

Just caught the last 2 laps of the 10,000m race.

53 second last lap!!!

13:25 for second 5000.

Kenenise Bekele in FOURTH PLACE !!! No medal *shock*

Mo Farah (GBR) and Galen Rupp (USA), both coached by Alberto Salazar take first two places. Ethiopian/Kenyan dominance over.

Other USA runners do quite well, Ritzenheim and Tegenkamp. I think one of them may also be a Salazar trainee.

Is this good news for American distance running? Will Salazar be able to win more distance medals for USA ?
If I recall, USA has not had a decent distance runner since Salazar himself in 1982/84.

p.s. Sadly the result (and even schedule) format for London is not as good as what it was for Beijing. No splits are shown for example.
Would be grateful if someone can post (or email me) a link to 10K full video, or even highlights.

Women's Marathon should be coming up soon today. 11 AM local time.

I am a bit gutted that British runner Paula Radcliffe pulled out due to injury before the OG. That's it for her. No OG Gold, and her WR in question due to running in mixed races.

Sadly, the link about does not give me the top Season's bests or PB's, or let me sort on them. Seems Ethiopia and Kenya have runners running under 2:20 this year. 6 runners. China has one at 2:22.

Gutted for Bekele, would have loved to see someone win three golds in the 10,000m. Delighted for Farah though.

Yeah, i was gutted for Bekele too.
On the good side an Ethiopian won the women;s marathon in OR time after falling hard at the middle point. Sadly, the others faded away.

Is Haile there in the men's marathon ? Rooting for him. When is the mens marathon ???

Haile didn't qualify for the 10,000 and said that was it for him.

I thought Bekele ran a poor tactical race. He knew that Farah had the faster 400m finishing kick. When they were basically even going into the final lap, Bekele had no chance to win.
And he positioned himself so badly that he ended up out of the medals. That shouldn't have happened to such a seasoned runner.

I also thought Rupp could have positioned himself better. I think he could have beaten Farah if he was a bit closer in the final 100m, but he let him get too far out in front.

I think Rupp is going to be the man to beat in the next few years. He can go faster.

Sorry this is off topic, but is the Games being held in London be the equivalent of holding the Games in New York City?

Darn, that totally sucks. Haile didn't even qualify for the marathon !! Pity they don't have WC's for previous winners.

I remember he did not run the Beijing Marathon due to smog, so that's it for him, I guess.
