Default Edwardsville Futures

Hey guys, just got done stringing for the first 3/4s of the Edwardsville Futures that's going on. I had to leave early (prior obligations), but I thought I would share my observations (if anyone's interested in specific players, look the draw up and chances are I strung one for them or watched their racquet getting strung):

- Solinco Tour Bite and BBO ruled as far as polys of choice, and a majority got it as a full job

- The average tension was in the low 50s

- Wilson and Babolat racquets were the most popular by far

- Lowest tension I saw was 40 lbs, highest was 61 lbs

- There were only three pros with pro-stock racquets that I could tell

As far as polys go, off the top of my head, Solinco Revolution (Meister), Wilson Enduro Pro (Garanganga), Isospeed Baseline (Agenor, yes, the Ronald Agenor - in dubs), and Pacific Poly Force (one of the Wake Forest players) were others I strung up.

Zhang definitely didn't look 15 at first glance, but I could see it. He was traveling with Yoo as a 'chaperone' (so to speak). He hit a big, flat ball, and was probably at least 6'1'' or 6'2''.

Why is Solinco making such a major push into the market? Are they sponsoring a lot of players?

Them and technifibre seem to really be targeting the junior market.

And that is a very nice marketing action thinking in the long run. That's exactly what Babolat made in the 90's when they released their line of racquets.

I wouldn't say sponsoring, but the college teams that a lot of the guys in the draw play for have Solinco strings for free (if not free, then severely discounted). There were a couple of players (names escape me) that had the Solinco stencil.

Oh, and on the Technifibre note, I didn't know that Frantangelo had switched to the Pure Storms from Tech (got my facts straight, right?).

Looks like it. He's still up as a tech sponsored player, but recent videos show him using some iteration of the pure storm.

When I was at the Farmers Classic, one of the reps was there handing out strings to a ton of juniors. A lot of those kids also had Solinco frames in hand. They must be trying to make a major push with a a grassroots effort?

Do you know which PS he's using? I know he was previously wielding a PSLGT but not sure if that's still the case. Shame for Tecnifibre to lose Fratangelo.

There were 4Ds (Lippens) and Biomimetics (one of the Korean guys playing dubs).

It was a normal 98" pj to me. I'm sure there was lead somewhere, but I was stuck stringing Giron's frames and my buddy got Bjorn's frames (they came in at the same time typically).
