I find that your right about power and spin compared to vs touch/team you can tell the difference, but for flat hitters like myself, I love it, as you get more control, and more feel, due to most guts are either too soft touch/team (for me it was), other cheap guts are too stiff, I find whispertouch is inbetween these, not soft/stiff

So I went out today to practice, and before I started serving, I decided to see what the incoming view looks like. So, I set the camera on the teaching cart about 3 feet behind the baseline in a returner's position and then hit two first serves and then a second serve into the body. Coming up now is that video.

I also spent some time working on my backhand. Since I have gotten some good comments on it from the receiving end, I am finished large-scale modifying it. As like above, coming up now is that video.

Nice vids. Form looks good on both the backhand and serve. I think I'll pick on your forehand if we ever play.

An it's just as effective. I use that play against almost anyone: crosscourt backhand, slice down the line, charge the net. Very few players can do anything but try a sharp crosscourt, which is pretty easy to cover, or a down the line, which is very low percentage and still pretty easy to cover. I pride myself on overheads, so lobs aren't a big problem.

What would you say is the most effective play against you? So basically, what is your foil?

Haha I forgot I bought a set of polylon ice blue this summer to measure out string lengths (I don't particularly trust stringers in cities I don't live in when handing them reels of string they've never heard of i.e. Scorpion and Thunderblast), but I never did use it. Perhaps that's a playtest for another day.

The most effective thing to do is go hard crosscourt to my forehand or hard down the line to my forehand. While I can take control of the points with my forehand, it isn't particularly fundamentally sound. It gets a little...I guess floppy is the word. My backhand is solid and I can redirect pace very well as well as attack. I was always such a handsy player that I moved the ball around rather than get good solid stroke on the forehand. It just doesn't hold up well against hard, deep pace. |

Which are worse to the backhand, low balls or high? I play regularly against two players who each deal with this problem.

Unless it's a really high ball and I don't catch it early, I don't really have a problem with either. I might have to slice a really low one, and I might not be able to fully drive a high backhand, but neither really trouble me. The worst by far is dealing with hard pace to my forehand.
