2012 Wilson BLX 6.1 95

I am going to demo these racquets in 16x18 and 18x20 string pattern just to see how it compares to my PSTGT. Anyone else had a chance to try this racquet?

It seems to me that 16x19 or 16x18 is more traditional Wilson feel. If you want a 18x20 racquet, you should try a Head.

Where did you guys get the 16x19 string pattern as I don't see that as an option, either 16x18 or 18x20? I do like the traditional Wilson feel hence the reason for giving it a shot.

I have the racquets in both versions. The 16x18 has a bit more power and spin, while the 18x20 is more control oriented. They are low power racquets and fairly stiff. They're also on the heavy side overall, but they are headlight by 4-6 pts and you get tremendous stability. These racquets can handle any heavy shot and great for service returns. Also, the Amplifeel really dampens any vibration.

I think both can be tailored to be almost mirrors of each other with the right strings. I have picked up the game after a 12-yr layoff (my previous racquet was Pro Staff 6.1 Classic and played in college) and am experimenting with the strings. I have RPM Blast in one 18x20 (ok string) and NXT 17 in another 18x20 and in the 16x18. I will probably try the Solinco Tour Bite in the 18x20 get a bit more spin.

I played the 16x18 for over a year and liked it but I used poly mains to tone down the power. The 16x18 stringbed is livelier if you use the same string setup in both. I think the 18x20 is more common at higher levels - you see more pros with 18x20. BLX 6.1 95 is a great racket. If I had it to do over, I probably would get the 18x20 and drop gauge and tension on poly mains, or use gut main/poly cross hybrid.

Hey, is this a Volkl X10 295 reunion thread?

I've hit the '12 BLX 6.1 95 16x18 recently and I remembered how much I like this line of racquets and I'm seriously considering buying one. It reminds me of a fully loaded version of my X10. I love the X10 but there isn't one thing I can think of that the BLX 6.1 95 doesn't do better for me. That mass and sublime balance make executing my shots easier and more effective. I need an extended demo to see if I can pull off those shot just as easily in the second and third sets of a match. I don't mind swinging the X10 hard to tap its power, but I do get fatigued later in matches even with the relatively lighter racquet. I'm wondering; how much difference is an extra 3/4 of an ounce really going to make late in a match? I'm thinking the benefits will outweigh the potential added fatigue.

Anyhow, ps, I think you'll like the demo. A lot.

He may be referring to the BLX ProStaff 95 which is a 16 X 19.

Para let me know how it compares to the PST.. btw a nationally ranked junior (Top 10) has made the switch from the PSTGT to the upcoming Blade 98 in the 16x19... so I'm pumped to test that one out !

I hope they improve the BLX Blade as I wasn't impressed with the current version. I put both Wilson 95s on a scale and they are so off in weight it's not even funny.

The 18x20 string pattern weighed 11.8oz and the 16x19 pattern weighed 12.4oz. That's going to be a lot of lead tape to try to get them to balance each other out before trying to get them anywhere close to being a fair comparison.

Wilson QC is just horrid... and agreed I hated the BLX version but the N and K versions were solid.

That's a typo on my part, it's supposed to be 16x18 but I think that other posting stayed in my head about a 16x19 version

I thought there was a slim chance that you were talking about two different racquets. In this case, that .6oz difference is outrageous. Sometimes people mess around with the demos. Do they have the same string and grip. Any visible differences?

It's too bad, sucks to proceed with the doubt that you aren't actually using and comparing the frames as intended, and for that matter, if you do choose to order, what you receive may be yet another variant.

I just switched to it about 5 months ago. Coming from my Dunlop AG 4D 200, this had much more power and about the same control/
