Jack Crawford's name would be much more known today had he beaten Fred Perry in that 1933 US Championships final. In the big picture, Crawford didn't just lose the match, he lost tennis immortality.

He's right. The use of grand slam instead of major is wrong.
But it's everywhere now and some people I speak to understand majors only as "slams".

Of course he's right. He knows more about tennis than anyone alive. Except D. Dell knows where all the bones are buried. I'll give Dell that.

Yes, I miss him too. Old Man could explain how he came to the 99:83 Laver/Rosewall balance.

Crawford should have won. Crawford had some asthma trouble, but not serious. His friends secretly plyed him with alcoholic drinks during the 1933 US final, and by the end of the third set, Crawford was unwittingly drunk and could no longer play.

LOL, This is hilarious. I do wonder who he is talking about. Can't we all appreciate beautiful movement on a court , or a perfect tennis body/ build in any gender? or do bisexuals have twice the gift, than the rest of us ?

In this case, Crawford was beaten by his own friends, who mistakenly thought they were doing him a favour.
Crawford refused to take prescription medications for his asthma. Even then, there was some thought that drugs would unfairly enhance performance.

Apparently, Crawford didn't realize he was being given booze in his drink. That's the story.
