I live in Florida. We get floods and downpours all the time. That comment was a joke as was my previous post.

I know you do ( i.e. have downpour and flooding in Florida from time to time)

Nevertheless, i wish you wont get your personal house hit as bad as ours was.

I have been lucky enough to never be subjected to flooding outside of the occasional plumbling incident. It must be horrible.

Living on the water is nice at times but the downside is when mother nature shows us who is really the boss.

Parts of Louisiana are below sea level so they have to constantly pump water out. They have this elaborate system of levies that fails from time to time. Don't understand why anyone would decide to live in harm's way like that. It is only a matter of time before one gets flooded.

Good luck to all the flood victims. Must be a horrible experience. Hope they have insurance.

I want to retire in tennis paradise soon, so this is why I pick Hilton Head, SC---it's a barrier island set inland, so for the last century, it's only been hit by a hurricane once. Otherwise, any hurricanes move north from Florida and up to the Outer Banks and beyond.
Plus, the club I'd join at HH has 23 clay courts....

Yes its a spot that not very desirabel. but people have lived there in the past and have their history and families and livelyhooods there. now that the impacts of temperatures increasing in the oceans amp up things its worse than what previously expected and experienced. At least they arent the Maldives. I hope for the best but inform myself to be prepared for the worst.

Cool

Isaac has turned into a real pain...part of it spun off to blitz the NE for that delay at the USO; now, another band has reformed in the Gulf and could get strong enough to be named storm Nadine. At its very least, the effect will be more rain along the Gulf Coast and into the Florida peninsula.

The NHC blogged that the "son of Isaac" should really be named Esau or Jacob.

From time to time the question arises, what kind of science is worthwhile listening to?
My impression is that its very much a case of valuebased judgements and inconsistent bordering on flipfloppy in these threads.

Is it worthwhile listening to weatherforecasts for example?

Compared to listening to your rambles, the answer is YES!

If you see me as 'rambler' you may take issue with what you might come across as.
Anyhow , ok, so you have an ear for weatherforecasts.
Given that , what does determine weather in your view?

Hurricanes I've experienced since I was a young lad:

- Donna
- Betsy
- Camille
- Andrew
- Katrina
- Wilma

PS: Isaac wasn't a hurricane when it passed by these parts.
