My Tennis partner(Age:32) died 2 months ago due to cardiac arrest which was kind of shocking for me. Considering he plays 6 hours tennis and also goes to gym on a regular basis.
I decided to my physical and went to doctor last week. Doctor handed out a prescription slip with the following supplement list even before examining my health: Omega 3 with Fatty acid - 2000mg/day Vitamin D 5000 UI - 1 per day B Complex - 1 per day I asked the doctor, how long should I eat this ...his reply was "life long". My test result came out 2 days later and show everything is fine. Now, I'm reading about taking supplements in web, it says excessive vitamins could be risky. For example, I'm playing in sunlight atleast 7 hours/ week ...am i still suppose to take Vitamin D supplement? or is it after certain age it is recommended to take these supplement (I'm 37)? |

1) for reasons not entirely clear, Vitamin D deficiency seems to be an epidemic lately. Not everyone is convinced; some in medical science believe the assay is flawed and skewed to overdiagnose. I'd probably err on the side of caution and take it. The dose is not huge and not likely harmful
2) B vitamin deficiency is unusual in the US where even Twinkies are made from "enriched" flour that has B vitamins added. When B 12 deficiency exists, it's usually a malabsorption problem that would need injected B 12 rather than oral to resolve it.

What, no protein powder?
If there is one thing the American diet is lacking, it has to be protein. Quote:
However, I would suggest that you start taking Prozac, Loritab, and Viagra right away.............. Quote:

Taking what the doc suggested isn't going to hurt you. Could help. I'd do whichever you feel more comfortable with.

1. Sorry you lost your friend.
2. You write as if English is not your primary language. r2473's attempt at humor probably does not translate. Don't worry about it. 3. Ollinger's response is a good one. - KK

Sorry for the loss of your friend.
Agree completely with Ollinger. B complex probably not helping or hurting-you will likely just urinate out most of the vitamins. D is fine but if your numbers are normal, keep it to 1-2000 IU per day and look for Vitamin D3. Newest update on fish oil and cardiac health today: http://www.cnn.com/2012/09/11/health...oil/index.html Instead of supplements, just have 2-3 servings/week of a low mercury/toxin fish like wild caught salmon or sardines. I actually prefer sardines and eat 2 cans a week.

Meh, I've been taking a supplement since July. Other than day glo urine I can't say I've noticed much of a difference in the way I feel. Probably won't waste any money on another bottle once this is gone (and yes, its a "good" multi vitamin).
Wild caught salmon is very expensive, but I try to get it when its on sale.
