Steve Johnson also just finished a straight set win over Rajeev Ram! Klahn is about to get on court against Jurgen Melzer.

Wow, fantastic win for Klahn today over former top 10-er Melzer! This has been an incredible US Open so far for the NCAA!!
Novikov (UCLA) - 2nd round at least Johnson (USC) - 2nd round at least, straight set win against Ram Klahn (Stanford) - 2nd round at least, 5-set win vs. former top 10 Melzer Burdette (Stanford) - 3rd round at least Gibbs (Stanford) - lost in first round Johnson/Sock - defeated #1 seed Mirnyi/Nestor in round 1 Am I missing something? Is there more?

novikov/redlicki saved some match pts to pull out a dubs win and not surprisingly, former UVA players huey/inglot continued their solid dubs play this year with a win |

Ah, thanks for the update mikej! Technically, I guess Isner should also be a representative of recent NCAA grads too.

I read that Novikov actually gave college tennis credit for his improved game. That's big for college tennis.

By the score line alone, I'm impressed. Many insiders in this area predict Scholtz won't last 4 years in school and turn pro before finishing his elegibility.

Incoming Sooner Axel Alvarez beat Clay Thompson 6-3 6-2 in the final round of future qualies. Looks like John Roddick found a pretty darn good player.

How did you find out already? I've been looking at the itf website for updates and didn't see it. This is really exciting for us, between Paval, Alcorta, Webb, Siributwong, Alvarez and Starkhovsky, we got a pretty deep team this year. So deep that Mihov transfer and we probably won't lose much.

The guy is a few months older than I am and he's only a sophomore in college (I'm a 4th year). Ah, foreign players in the NCAA...

Not to say what the US players do is automatically right, just pointing out that it's not necessarily a level playing field age-wise...

Several former college players in action today in Sacramento.
Klahn plays Blake... could be interesting. In principle Blake should win easily but Klahn beat Melzer at the US open so it might be a competitive match. |
