well the weekend actually ended up being not so bad for Clemson.

Yannick Maden:
def Sotomarino(UNF) 6-2 6-1
lost to Bjerrehus(VT) 6-1 4-6 7-5.

doubles w/ D.Maden.
def Kallberg/Lindmark (Ole Miss) 8-3
def Brasseaux/Diaz (UGA) 9-8(2)
def Austin/Lipman (Vandy) WO
def Pasha/Wagland (UGA) 8-4
lost to Alford/Diep 8-5

At first I was distraught over the loss to Bjerrehus but the Freshman Dane showed this week that he can play by beating Van Overbeek in straights. So the 3 set close one isn't so bad.

He and brother Dom played well in doubles. I like this team.

Gerardo Meza
lost to Pieters (UGA) 7-6(4) 6-4
def Bao (FGC) 7-6(3) 6-3
vs Antun (VT) ?

doubles w/ Wibowo
lost to Chaundry/Stropp (Miss State) 8-5

Not a terrible loss to Pieters considering Pieters had a great week until the finals. Rebounded with a consolation win.

Has never been a great doubles player so not a surprise.

Dom Maden
lost to Lutjen (Ole Miss) 7-6 6-3
lost to Offerdahl (Vandy) 6-2 6-1

Pretty good showing vs Lutjen who would go on to win the event. It was Lutjen's closest match of the tournament outside of the war with Pasha, rolled in all other matches. But Maden followed that up with a lopsided loss to Offerdahl. I don't know what happened there, bad match up or Dom was tired or what.

Did great in doubles with brother Yannick.

Hunter Harrington
lost to Angus (Miss State) 6-4 3-6 7-6(5)
def Abdukhalikov (Tenn Tech)
def Mills (PC) 5-7 6-3 10-7

Really tough loss vs Angus. Would have liked to have seen him face of with BVO. But rebounded well with a whipping of the Kazakh from Tenn Tech, a guy who can play good tennis. And a nice close win over Mills who beat Hirooka of UK. Good to see him get a close win.

Austin Ansari
lost to Nunez (UGA) 6-4 6-3
def Johnson 6-4 6-4
def Strecker (Lipscomb) 3-6 6-3 10-6

First collegiate action for the talented freshman from Greensboro. Slightly disappointing loss to Nunez to start it off, but responded well and beat Johnson in a routine manner. Johnson gave Alford a tough match. Then a close win over Strecker who took Backstrom to 7-5 in the 3rd.

Ayrton Wibowo (d2 bracket)
def Andersson (Ga.College) 6-1 7-6
def Sharma (GT) 6-4 6-0
def Davisson (UNF) 6-2 7-6(6)
lost to Gomez (VT) 6-7(4) 6-2 6-1

not sure why Wibowo was in the D2 bracket, while Harrington and D maden played in d1, considering Wibowo had a ranked win last year, over Hess-Olesen of UNC. Had some routine wins over lesser players and a disappointing fade in sets 2 and 3 to Hokie Freshman Gomez.

Clement Reix will play Tsonga in the 2nd round of Metz after beating ERV in 3 sets. Good qualie run and 1st round win for the former Tiger. It will be interesting to see how he does vs Tsonga.

That certainly is odd. Furman was supposed to come here too if I recall. This is the first time we arent playing Furman in as long as I can remember.

Draws for the Tigers in the pre-qualies:

Tough draw for Ansari getting Harrison Adams in the 1st round

Wibowo also gets a tough draw vs Formentera in the first round

Harrington has an easy first round match but is in same section as Harrison Richmond.

DoM Maden has the best draw. Has no big obstacles in his way except maybe an improved Cotrone. D Maden could reach the qualies.

He would have to beat the #2 seed to make the qualies.

From a main tour even against Tsonga to a futures tournament in Kuwait the next week.......the tour is a harsh place!

Wibowo won in straights over Formentera. The other three lost.

I expected the Ansari loss, about the score I expected too. But these other 3 results stun me. Disappointing from Maden, I heard a lot this summer about how well he was playing in Germany and improving in Bundesliga, but 0-3 in ITA so far in the fall. Harrington with a poor loss to an unknown player in straights.

Good win for Wibowo though. I admit I have lost a little faith in him, like I think its entirely possible who could be #7 on the team this year but this is a good win over Formentera and a good scoreline too. Let's see how he does vs a player he should beat in the next round.

Gerardo Meza gets #6 player from Tulsa Espejo in the first round of qualifying. A good draw for him, could possibly qualify. The seeds are 16 Hemmeler and 31 Periera of Wichita State. Dangerous floaters Diep and Bjerrehus in there as well.

I try to stay positive I really do.

But this has been a disaster tournament for the Tigers. Meza lost today to the #6 player for Tulsa in 3 tight sets.

A deep run by Yannick Maden in the main draw could make up for this slightly

Tulsa is pretty darn good. It's a gauntlet out there. The game at the top seems deeper each year. Hang in there.

At least you got players in the draw. Illinois usually doesn't send players to the qualifying rounds.

Good luck with the rest of the Tigers still in it!

My Tigers still have 4 of 6 left in singles. Today will be a big test for them.

I think I'm most disappointed in Dom Maden's loss. I think he was a better player when he was raw as a Freshman. I remember watching him beat Blake Davis 6-2 6-2 two years ago and Davis couldn't do a thing. Now D Maden has lost a lot of his edge that made him good. Some players are better raw and he is one of them.

It also hurts to see a player we just barely missed on doing well. Facundo Lugones of TCU who was very close to coming to Clemson. Not that im pulling against him, I'm pulling for him, good guy.

It's somewhat simplistic but some guys get better in college, others don't and some get passed up by improving players. It's interesting to me to see how kids develop during their college years. There are so many factors that impact each kid it's almost impossible to predict how a kid will work out during those 4 years.

I see that former Clemson Tiger Clement Reix is picking up points in both doubles and singles at the Futures event this week in Doha, Qatar, where he is the #1 seed in singles.

Reix has been bouncing around everywhere lately. Played vs Tsonga now in the middle east trying to rack up points.

Good day of doubles for Clemson. The Maden bros defeated a dangerous team from A&M. Hopefully they can qualify for the main draw.

The surprise of the day was the Meza/Wibowo team. They defeated TCU 8-4 then upset the New Mexico team 8-5. Pretty good day for them. Have a tough team from Texas next
