The kicker is that Google Maps will be available locally on the device in Jelly Bean. If maps are important to you, then it's clear which platform is winning by a country mile right now.

But their prices tend to be outrageous (and they will continue to be as long as droves are willing to pay)! And they will take every oppurtunity to be a monopoly and make as much profit as possible; like every other corporation... And yes competition is good, and I'm glad Apple (an American company) is dominating. However, i will not overlook Apples many faults like their legions of fanatics tend to do... |

The price you quote must be the MSRP; I got mine for 50 bucks at a local big box warehouse when it first came out with a renewed contract, unlike with Apple you can find plenty of deals on most Android models.... and what do you mean best of both worlds Google maps does everything while the new iOS map app (from tom tom I think) seems to be horrible out of the box. |

The evo extended battery was not that great. I had multiple batteries for that phone. Why should I have to spend $35 more because the supplied battery sucks? Meanwhile my ipad2 still works for 10 hours after having it for over a year. Does that make any sense? Yeah apple loves guys like me. And Droid loves nerds who will make excuses for the fragmented OS (freedom man) , the laggy UI (Just root..its super easy, unless you make 1 mistake and brick your device), and calls people slaves and sheep because they enjoy judging people by their cell phone decisions. Get real, and get with the times and use spotify. Why waste all your phone storage on mp3s? Thats ancient thinking. Calling me names in no way makes you look better either. It just proves my point.

I'm going to the iPhone 5 after 3+ years with Android. For me personally the fragmentation and lack of device support got too frustrating. I bought a top end Android handset in December of 2010, and it got an update from 2.2 to 2.3 that came about 6 months later than they said it would. It won't ever get another update. When I bought it, it had a faster processor, bigger screen, more RAM and a few other features over the iPhone 4. It was snappier, I loved it. Fast forward 4 months and it was laggy, buggy, slower and with the aforementioned lack of support a completely frustrating mess. Android 4.0 is supposed to alleviate a lot of these issues, but only 20% on Android handsets are running 4.0+. That means 4/5 people with Android are using a seriously antiquated system. To add onto that, iPhones from 2009 are able to get the iOS 6 update. Pretty staggering difference in device support there. (I know you can buy Nexus devices to get updates, but those phones have never wowed me personally). People who have been with Android for years realize this...Newcomers within the last year or so don't know it yet. The GSIII has ICS, and "will get JB in a month", but after that? Probably no updates. Samsung will be focusing on the GS IV, and since all OS updates have to be skinned by the manufacturers, it leads to huge delays. It will get frustrating for people with these premium handsets who realize they don't get support after their first 6-12 months with the device. |

For the record, Google maps on my Android device is fine, but it's by no means incredibly accurate. It gets my location wrong, sometimes gives wrong directions, etc...It's by no means perfect. I have in dash nav in my car, so I'll never lean on a phone for driving directions. Accurate maps are of course important, but it's not as big of a deal to me personally as it may be to some. |

As a user of Droid for over 3 years, this is my experience. they come out with a magical OS that is supposed to be amazing and your phone never gets it. so then people hack their phones for it, but lose functionality (currently camera in current AOSP JB ROMS is crap, and texts are flakey, you can't update your PRL without reflashing a Sense ROM, GPS is not working , needs a patch..etc). I have google now and it really doesnt do anything that cool to me. It tells me there is traffic on my way to work sometimes, but it tells me at times I would never drive to work anyway.
Ill have the iphone 5 by oct 5 and if it is not as good as my LTE EVO, Ill be happy to share.I dont care about phones and dont judge people like others here. But my battery has sucked (they are built in now), my reception (sprint sucks) is poor and the lag I deal with everyday is ridiculous.

I don't think Apple "revolutionized" anything with this phone, they've simply released something that's competitive with the top end smartphones on the market. I do think personally that the form factor they use and their build quality is unparalleled, and getting all this stuff into a super thin, light, yet solid feeling device is pretty awesome. We'll see how this goes. |

Yes, I don't think apple has any effective competition in terms of the total package even if the others have more eye-catching specs, but I don't buy expensive phones so a budget android phone is ideal.

Makes sense.
Its just like tablets. Use an ipad for a year and then try something else. Nothing is on par. If you are a nuts and bolts tech hacker guy - well then go crazy and snicker all you want. But those are the guys using their free time to maximize their devices while the rest of us are using our devices to maximize our free time.

![]() and i didn't call you any names, except for 'consumer', if that upsets you I apologize... and please do not mention spending extra money; as an Apple fan you have very little ground to stand on when it comes to that! BTW, I'm not a nerd (talk about calling names), my Android is not rooted (although its great to have the option), and with 32 GB of storage my phone easily holds all my songs and videos without any problem... Yes fragmentation is a relative problem with Android (not really but Apple fan boys love to bring it up), and the UI can be spotty every once in a while (just like the new maps app with iOS6 is right now)... But overall Android provides 110% of the functionality of iOS, with 90+% of its reliability, at a fraction of the cost (most of the time)... But to each his own... |

You'll find out at some point. Your HTC Rezound is running ICS, and may or may not get a Jellybean update. What about when Android 4.2 comes out. Won't you want support for that OS? Your phone is good now, running smoothly, but as updates stop coming to your phone and your OS gets more and more outdated, it will get more frustrating. I think fragmentation is a huge issue for Android. Again, 80% of current Android users don't even know what it's like using the best OS Google has to offer. |

Whats the difference if an owner's phone is providing all the functionality the user needs. My Rezound was upgraded a couple of weeks ago to ICS. Okay so there are some new features, fine, but i would not mind going back to the previous iteration... the main difference I notice thus far is email intergration and some new texting features and a different homepage layout. Functionally the previous OS was fine, I had no problems with it at all... I also had a Motorola before; and adapting to HTC's Sense was cumbersome at first. I thought Motorola's skin was more efficient and to the point. But now that I'm used to HTC's UI; I realy like it. I'm sure if I moved to Samsung's OS it owuld be frustrating in the begginning but I would get used to it... I do not see the big deal with the fragmentation 'issue' for the individual user ![]() |

FWIW, I like HTC Sense fine...I love their live action weather widget, it's probably my favorite part of my phone (my weather never updates unless I open it and force a refresh, but it's still cool). There's just been a huge increase in internal quality of Android phones over the last 12 months. That's great for the marketplace and consumers, but the software doesn't match up with the hardware now...You'll likely never see Jellybean on your phone, even though that's the OS that is supposed to finally rival iOS in terms of smoothness and responsiveness. I'm pretty sure it's less than 2% of Android phones that have 4.1. Even if you could live with 4.0, wouldn't you rather get an update to 4.1 and beyond? Your phone's hardware and screen supports it, why won't the manufacturer? |

Fair enough. I agree it sounds like their new mapping app will take some time to iron out the bugs. The lack of Flash support bugs me too especially on the Mac. Give me the user the option of running Flash and running my battery down if I so desire. Heck, even warn me before I run Flash. As for cost, it is supply and demand of course but it seems like most of my friends that have been long time Mac users have their computers for a decade or more. If it costs double but lasts twice as long, then the price/year is the same. |

I don't know what OS my phone was running before the update (i think it was 2.3), but it was just fine. It ran very smoothly with the occasional freeze the required a restart, hasn't happened since the ICS update, but I'm sure it will... Unless there is some major feature that dictates an upgrade, its really not a big deal to me. Like when my original PS3 needed un update to support up-conversion of standard dvds to HD resolution; that was a big deal... So far with ICS, I don't see anything major. I do appreciate the added convenience features, but thats it... |
