I didn't play for Oregon, like you played for VT, but I am an Alumnus and have been a huge fan since I started attending in 2002. I've been with Oregon when we would struggle to win 6-7 games a year, and I've been there for the crappy seasons along with the great last four years we've had. I care about violations. I'm still terrified that the NCAA is going to lower the boom on us for Willie Lyles. I know every team does it, but I don't want to be lumped in that group or penalized for trying to get an edge. We're winning, we have a tremendous coach, great facilities and we have the flashiest gear in all of football. Those should be the only edges we need as far as recruiting goes. |

They should rename this game "The Has Been Bowl". |

You gotta stick with the team through thick and thin. That's what separates fans like us from USC fans.

Thanks, I think we'll be alright, but Arizona usually plays us tough and their offense looks legit this year. The first test for our "good" defense that we're apparently sporting this year.

I dont think Oregons unis are flashy but most of them are the ugliest unis in the nation. I like their all white ones with either the white helmet or green helmet but the rest of their unis are ridiculous IMO.

Luckily, 17 and 18 year old football studs disagree with you. Some people hate our unis...That's cool, everyone is different. I think they're dope, and they've had a hugely positive impact on our recruiting.

Lucky that Alabamas taken to the flashy unis to keep drawing in the 5 star recruits huh? If they had some boring unis, theres no way they could beat the teams with the dope unis.

When you're not a traditional football power (Alabama, LSU, USC, ND, Michigan and some others), it's harder to recruit blue chip kids. Oregon has differentiated themselves with uniforms. They're eye catching, and they get a lot of buzz...Any press is good press in this regard. The fact that we have a locker room that rivals most in the NFL, the connection with Nike, the speed of the offense and the teams success obviously also help immensely. It's clearly working for Oregon. In the last 12 years the program has gone from a perennial bottom dwellar to a perennial top 10 program. |

They were a pretty good program 10 years ago before they switched uniforms. They werent as good as they have been the last 3 or 4 years thats for sure but didnt Joey harrington take them to the Rose Bowl in their old unis?

Bama is a traditional power and likely has a little under the table action going. Why else would anyone want to move to Tuscaloosa?

Yeah we won the Fiesta Bowl in 2002, but that was after the Nike/Phil Knight connection exploded. The unis over the last 8-10 years have just continued where that left off.

You can use the 'why would anyone wanna move to X" argument for pretty much any place. Hell I know Blacksburg isn't that fun a place either. Not that I think Tech cheats, bc I don't. Nor do I think Bama is clean BTW. |

Kevin Just knows the game a lot better than you man. A lot of us know the dirtier programs from interactions with players and assistant coaches..etc.
When you steal a recruit from the state of alabama it is a major major win. It just doesnt happen. People do get paid there more than other places. there is no hangup on under the table action. It is a big part of college football.

On a legit front, what I love about FSU's recruiting is how Jimbo built it. All our coaches are stud recruiters. Established pipelines with High schools and guys who know the regions. stuff like that makes a giant difference. These kids play forJimbo because he understands them as people and not just players.
Are we paying them? I honestly do not know, but since we are a saban inspired team, I would have to imagine its a possibility. Id like to think not, as I hold Jimbo in very high regard.

As for Jimbo, time will tell. I was a teaching/grad assistant at UK when Tubby Smith was there and he was legit. UK also had some lean years after Tubby went through Pitino's recruits and got canned. I've told this story before here on TW but Tubby (not an assistant) personally checked up on his players. He's a good man and cared for his players. I was an adjunct professor at a formerly IAA school in South Carolina while interning in Charleston. Let me tell you, I felt pressure from coaches there like I haven't known since, even at larger unis.

Actually, I take my SEC comment back. I forgot that Mizzou is in the SEC now. With Mizzou leaving, every team in the Big 12 has been on probation at one time or another, while the SEC has Vandy and Mizzou having never been on probation. The Big 12 is the official winner of 'Dirtiest Football Conference'
And a shout out to r2 and his Iowa Hawkeyes, one of only a handful of teams in NCAA history with the distinction of a national title and no history of probation.
