In fact its an interesting point. Are apple so arrogant now that they're not prepared to buy in tech?

clear plastic case. Very attractive to the eye. but it won't give you much protection if you drop it on concrete surface. better to get something with cushion or rubber cover. Soft rubber case made of D3O would afford you much protection

Yeah, it was a really bad decision. What I don't understand is why they didn't buy a company a year or two ago and integrate all this and really get ready for it.

The new maps look nice, and I haven't had an issue with them yet, but lots of people hate them, and it's a blunder on Apple's part. They'll definitely get better, but it will be a long time, if ever, that they stack up to google maps (best maps around, imo).

I have AppleCare+ for the phone, so if I drop it and it shatters it's $49 for a brand new phone. I hate those big bulky cases personally. I like something that slips easily into a pocket and feels good in the hand.

Its probably a short-lived mistake...

However, Apple often uses its ultra-loyal fan base as 'development mules' to further push the market in the direction they want; and often succeed!

I.E. flash to HTML5, HD-DVD > Bluray (failed at this one), Itunes purchases to be played on non apple devices (just recently gave up and allowed an owner to play a song on what they want), etc...

I tried using Apple Maps today while riding to lunch. The test was to try and find directions to the restaurant we were heading to. I'll say that I tried every variation of the restaurant name and Apple tried to send me out of state every time.

So I fired up Google Maps in my web browser. I typed in the first 3 letters of the restaurant and autocomplete filled in the rest. Winner by a mile = Google.

They bought 3 companies: Placebase, Poly9 and C3 Technologies. Unfortunately, it looks like they put too much weight on the functionality (in particular the 3D), and not enough on the underlying data. Hopefully they'll spend a few quid licencing some good local data from around the world.

As the discussion has moved towards cases, I'm a Lifeproof man myself. They haven't released their case for the 5 yet (and at this point, they have only released cases for Apple products), but I've had one for my 4S since late last year. At the time of purchase, it was the slimmest ruggedised case, and also the only one that was waterproof. Really appreciated it when I was snowboarding.

See post #295.

The culture of Apple customers simply aren't into being development mules. I didn't mind techie stuff and workarounds when I was a student and a 100% fully working computer was a novelty, but nowadays anything techwise that causes me hassle or wastes my time, just ****es me off. I just want the thing to work from the word go. Even Co-Pilot on Android ****es me off at time because I know it sometimes isn't offering me the most direct route (even though it will get me there eventually) but that's down to the 3rd party developer. Google Maps Navigation actually works very well in terms of efficient routing but it doesn't have the bells and whistles of a dedicated sat nav app. In fact, thinking about it, Google should combine the two, or maybe they just don't want to alienate potential developers.

I was having a conversation with Siri the other day and said, "Hey Siri, take me to the nearest Taco Bell."

15 hours later, I noticed I was somewhere in the Arctic Circle!

I hope you brought a jacket!

Just ordered two iPhone 5s from an AT&T store. They should be here Monday or Tuesday.

My wife and I went today to pick up her Iphone 5 today.

The phone is simply awesome and an enormous improvement over the 4.

You just saying that to be sarcastic. Iphone 5 is tiny in comparison to other smartphones. Small screen is really annoying. Look at Galaxy S3 then look at Iphone 5, it is like " ohhhhhhh, i hate this small screen" Why didn't apple make this bigger ? !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They do. They are called home computers, which I wouldn't want to carry around in my pocket. Too heavy and bulky.

To be fair, the S3 is 7 grams lighter than the 4s

I've not had a problem with either in my pocket, but maybe I don't notice it as much as I prefer the bigger screen.

Not knocking the S3. While we were at the store and she was having her phone set up, I was toying around with the S3. Very impressive, and the screen is simply awesome. That said, the Iphone ( I have a 4 and haven't decided if I'm going to upgrade), simply put, feels and works for me, much easier and smoother. Still, I would say I'm still in the market and open to looking at other phones.

Galaxy III all the way. Im an android guy, the way it works for me is great, I only, had to upgrade OS and thats it. The hardware in general still works perfect and its been 2 years with the same phone. iOS doesnt have what Im looking for/what I need. Nothing against iphones, they are great phones but they simply dont work for me.

Yeah, I was an iPhone 4 user myself and I was a big fan of the build quality, finish and of iOS in general. Having just started using Android it's a nice feeling to come across things I don't like, and be able to change them. iOS is nearly perfect but not everyone wants their phone to work in exactly the same way.

I've mentioned about the lack of timestamps on messages, no times and dates for photos etc.. just simple little tweaks like that for me would of meant I wouldn't of had to look for alternatives. So far with the S3 i've totally changed the look of it, custom icons, a few widgets and the like. I wasn't a fan of the standard keyboard so just downloaded one from the market place and it's fantastic. The apps and widgets on the lockscreen mean you don't even need to unlock your phone to get what you need.

It's just things like that where you can make it your phone that i'm enjoying.

Eh? What do you mean no time stamps? Genuine question as I'm not AV iPhone user.

Fena is talking about the lack of time stamps on messages. On most phones, the date and time of the message is reported with every text. On the Iphone, if you sent or received a text from someone after a significant time period (ex. a few hours), a time stamp shows up next the text. Now, if you continue texting this person back and forth for the next 2 hours, none of the messages will have a time stamp.

Additionally, the Iphone does not show basic information about the pictures and videos you took. Unless you upload the photos to your computer, there is no way to look at the time and date that a picture in your photo album was taken.
