I'm an Aussie. We have won all 3 so far. We only get Aussie matches on free to air tv so I don't know about the form of any team. I sort of assumed it was pretty equal and any of the 8 could win. Aussies are very reliant on Shane Watson. 3 consecutive man on the match performances.

They're looking really good.

Although England beat Australia in the warm up games. I think if Australia win it all, us being the last team to defeat them means we're the rightful champions

India squash Pakistan to keep the chance of qualifying alive

4 man of the matches for Watson. I would take out an insurance policy on that guy. The downside is that nobody has had a bat. The day Watson fails is when these other guys must have their first hit of the tournament. Maybe they will rest him for the Pakistan game because we have practically qualified.

I don't think Australia should take a chance in the next game because cricket and T20 in particular is a funny game and the gods have not been kind on Aussies in this format. What if India beat SA by a huge margin and Pak also beats Aus by a huge margin and they end up not qualifying
I don't think they can take the risk of resting Watson

As a west indies fan I was so nervous but we really held our nerve in the super over! Then Sri Lanka did us a favour v England! My gut feeling is Australia and India will qualify!

Never had us down to defend our title so I'm not surprised that we're bowing out in the Super 8 stage.

Patel was brilliant in the chase though - really frustrates me that he's still considered a bowler that bats a bit and that it's a big surprise when he scores runs.

I'm a big Patel fan. He was very good in India last winter, he got 70 off around 40 balls in one of the games I think.

We were awful then and he got us back into it a couple of times.

He used to, and still does sometimes.

Since Lumb and Taylor arrived though he's dropped down a couple of places to 6th.

Have to say I lost a lot of repect for Australia today! They blatantly made no effort to chase down 149 for victory but knowing 112 was needed to avoid elimination they made 117 from their 20 overs to qualify and almost certainly take Pak with them unless India thrashed Sa which didn't happen!

I hope my boys the West Indies can raise their game and send Australia home on Friday!

How arrogant of you ! Instead of focusing in how good Pakistan bowl you suggest that Australia just wanted to get 112. Pakistan has the three best bowlers in the T20 format: Ajmal, Afridi and Gul.
Australians never want to lose, they just got outplayed today.
I guess you would now suggest that SA. knowing that they were out, only wanted to make 122 to kick India out ?

So you honestly think if Australia were going for 149 they would just take singles and coast along to 117? They may get bowled out but they wouldn't bat the overs for just 117 they made sure they did enough to qualify while put India in serious trouble!

Did you not see how Hussey celebrated for reaching 112 even though they were losing! 112 was clearly their target not 149!

South Africa unlike Australia were trying to win the game as any team should in such a big event!

As a pakistan fan, i do slightly agree with ark.
i do agree that australia didnt actually go for many big shots, hell they didnt even make that many singles(rotating the strike), as hussey did hit a few fours especially of last over from shoaib malik/hafeez, then hit 1 four of gul in last over,
but at the start watson/warner did try and play shots, but as they fell quickly- australia just went to thr target (112).

I also felt that they didnt try and go for big shots after top 2 got out was because the track did suit pakistan spinners---- also the aussie middle order hasnt faced really anything, relied heavily on top 2

good semis, windies v aussies- will be about big hitting..batting match (1st match was like that but it rained and blew windies chance), both teams are reliant on top 2 scoring quickly, time for k.pollard to prove himself as batsmen (average 4).

pakistan v sri lanka - will be about containing,/bowling match. they have thr new spinner/mendis- mendis has a very poor record against us, also malinga v gul - whos got the better yorker/death bowling. Both teams look like they can collaspe in batting

prediction australia v pakistan final

maybe they should play the last round similtaneously to stop that kind of thing....it's also getting that way in the 50-over format. FIFA did that in 82.
I remember AUS on the go slow against windies in 99 world cup.

good to see the tounry heating up with the super8's..the matches were close an exciting...including ours(nz)...although i still think it's hard on minnows.
2 pools of 6 then go straight to semis would make things interesting.

yep..australia clearly have improved and begun a proper plan around 20/20 cricket and genuine 20/20 type cricketers...eg Warner/Watson...something India could learn from

I don't understand the criticism against Australia.

For South Africa to qualify, Australia had to win 3, with South Africa, India and Pakistan winning 1 each. If Australia deliberately lost to Pakistan to keep South Africa out, then yes that would be unethical.

As it was, Australia did not throw the game. They did their best in the field and started the run chase going for the 150. After they lost wickets, they knew they had to get the 112 to qualify for the semis which is based on THREE matches in the Super 8s. It is like a Formula 1 driver who has got enough points from the previous races and just knows they have to bring the car home in 1 piece to get the points to win the title. Do you see that as unethical? I would think that if you crashed your car going for the win in the last race it is pretty stupid. If Australia didn't make the semis because they were going for the win, I would think that is pretty stupid too.

If the matches were played simultaneously, Australia would have played the same anyway.
