Again, the post you responded to was specifically talking about drop durability, which is light years better on this phone than on the 4 or 4S. This is proven by every drop test and every comparison done so far. In addition, we've seen the iPhone 5 last longer and hold up better than top Android phones, even in tests performed by Android specific website.

As for scratches and dings...Every phone gets these. Some might be more prone than others (and the black iPhone may well fit in this camp), but my black iPhone 5 was flawless out of the box, as was my wife's white iPhone, and so far in nearly two weeks of use there aren't scratches or scuffs on either phone. If you take a set of keys or a knife or sharp object to any phone, it will scratch, iPhones included. Fwiw, people who had issues right out of the box have been able to return their phones for new ones that aren't damaged.

Side note, the HTC One X is incredibly prone to scratches, both on the screen and on the body. The reason you didn't hear about it was because 6 million people didn't buy/preorder the HTC One X in the first 48 hours it was available, so it wasn't big news. Any time Apple does something, good or bad, it's national news. It's the reason why we have so many "___gates", and why so many people hate the iPhone.
Yea, I could have been more specific. I was refferring to the Iphone's finish being prone to scratching and chips. All reports I've seen do state that the Iphone's screen and casing itself are very strong.

Its a shame about the finish though, and the camera in bright light (shows purple hue on pics)...

Since Iphone is so susceptable to chips and scratches even just out of the box, why does it do so well on drop test ? i thought it would just shatter into million pieces if you drop the thing.

Classic case of an iron fist wrapped in a silk glove...

The outer skin is dramatically delicate (probably a cheap paint and finish job is to blame here), while the case and internals are tough as nails. Buying an additional cover-case will solve this problem as BigServer has done.

I got an Otterbox cover for my iPhone but the AT&T people bamboozled me. They said the iPhone 5 would ship within 24 hours. That was last Friday, still has not shipped. I have a right mind to cancel the whole order and threaten to leave AT&T.

As for Apple Maps, it has performed OK for me the last few days. I'm just always going to be a Google Maps guy though. I want details, not beauty when it comes to maps.

Glorious day, I am getting mine at lunch.

Thinking about scratching mine up like it's an old Strat just for a more vintage look.

Yeah, we'll see how the majority of the phones wear over time. I'm interested to see phones after 6-12 months. I have a slim case on mine, just to protect against dings and dents that could plague any smart phone. I do have the top and bottom edges exposed with my case, so we'll see if those areas wear a lot more.

The purple hue issue apparently is normal on some camera phones if taken in certain light? I've got to be honest I don't know much about this one, but I read that lower quality cameras (like every camera phone) are more prone to this purple haze if shooting directly in bright, natural light.

http://thenextweb.com/apple/2012/09/...flaw-not-fast/

That article has an interesting comparison where the 4S has much more of a purple hue than the 5. I've also heard that a lot of phone cameras do this, but again I'm not sure. I think it's more a byproduct of extreme lighting conditions and cheaper parts that have to fit into thin units.

http://www.digitalversus.com/mobile-...ne-n26390.html

This article shows some iPhone 5 shots, and then a picture taken with a Canon that has similar issues. So I don't know, maybe it's common? It's still a bummer in certain lights, even if it is common.

Cross your fingers that it has no scratches or chips on the paint. What would you do if it does ? I would return it for another one. I can't stand imperfections.

There are many many people that can't stand little chips on the brand new expensive phone out of the box(including in this forum). They are not OCd as you put it. That is why many of us don't even use the phone til we have a good protective case in hand. I am a Perfectionist so i personally would return it for another one.

No you are an annoyance who is trolling as usual. You already have a phone and are just trying to find anything wrong you can with other people's for some reason. If the worst thing about my i5 is that it has a small scratch then I will be quite happy.

I don't care about that stuff. My racquets have scratches too. I'd buy a used one..who cares. Man up.

I opened up my iPhone 5 to apply lead tape at 12 / 3 / 9 and inside was a note from one of the Foxconn workers that said l was holding the GPOAT in my hands and to enjoy it and not worry about the really mean people hating on it.

Thank you Johnny Wong. I sure wish there was some way I could let you know that I am GPOATing and your message made it to me like a cosmic ray of dawn.

Yes. I'm actully returning my iPhone 5 today for a Galaxy SIII. I hear that ICS for the GS2 really wasn't friendly for the OS at all.

Just got my shipping information. My iPhone 5 should be here on Monday. Then I will go into my zombie Apple fan boy trance and walk around drooling and texting.
